Vanishing twin and/or polyp question -- updated with u/s pic in reply

For the ladies that have experienced "vanishing twin syndrome", what if anything did you notice in the weeks after it was discovered? I was a bit caught up in the crazy pace of my appointment yesterday and didn't really ask what to expect in the upcoming weeks. It didn't help that my OB and the sonographer weren't in agreement over what they were seeing. The sonographer thinks that I have an endometrial polyp (and a rather large one at that). Then my OB thinks it's a vanishing twin and that the mass we were seeing on the screen was blood/tissue from Baby B.  Then of course I hopped on Dr. Google (bad idea) and personally, I think my u/s pic looks a lot like a chorionic bump, and while the prognosis for that once you've seen a heartbeat is actually okay, it's still a bit scary. I don't go back for 3 weeks for the follow-up U/S, so I'm in wait-and-see mode at the moment. From what I understand, bleeding/cramping may or may not occur with all of the above but anything you ladies can add would be awesome. TIA!

  • Yeah, I could; I think I may wait till next week though. They are discussing my case at the team meeting on Tuesday to go over my previous history of preterm labor (since I'll likely have to start 17p shots at 16wks), so I'm guessing they will discuss my u/s, too. Maybe they will come to a consensus as to which one it actually is.

  • I had a vanishing twin with this pregnancy. I had no issues my body just reassorbed it. I could see with each ultrasound that the sac kept getting smaller until it was gone. I had no bleeding or cramping, however my re said it could happen but not common. Huge hugs to you & good luck!

  • I completely sympathize with not figuring out the right questions until you're out of the office. It's hard when a curve ball like this comes up! I agree with PP that calling next week (or whenever you're ready) sounds like the best plan.
