FF on the go logistics

I am starting to think I might want to venture out of the house with my twins finally. I am wondering about the logistics of preparing formula bottles while out and about. Do I bring the water from home and mix? Pre-mix then put on ice and find a way to warm? Bring the powder and find water while I'm out? I'm sure I'm overthinking this.

  • I put the powder in the bottle beforehand and carry a room temp bottle of water. We still have a lot of those ready pre-mixed bottles ( I don't know what they're called) from the hospital where all you have to do is add a nipple. They cost more but I think they're worth it. I don't get out much though.

  • I just saw these last week. They were about $10 at Target. I think I might try them because I hate how bulky my formula dispenser is. I also don't go out with her a lot.

  • I filled the bottles with water at home then carried a formula dispenser with the correct amount of pre measured formula powder. Like this

This is exactly what I did with my others.

  • I measured the formula into the baby bottles and brought (or bought on location) a bottled water to mix on the spot.

I think that the directions in formula mixing say that you should put the water in first and then powder or it throws off the measurements. Not as big of a deal in smaller amounts but as your bottles get larger or if you were to mix a pitcher of formula, the ratios would be off if you put powder in first.

  • I use the pre-measured packets of formula as someone pictured above and then either bottled water at room temp and she just drinks it without warming or I fill a thermos with hot water so by the time I need it the water is warm and not hot anymore.
  • I filled the bottles with water at home then carried a formula dispenser with the correct amount of pre measured formula powder. Like this

    This exactly.

  • I used formula with my first when out and we would fill the bottles with water before leaving and take pre measured powder with us. On occasion we bought the pre measured packets shown above. She took it room temp so never had to worry about heating it.

April mom lurking... At night and on the go I have a thermos that I fill up with warm water that stays at that temp. for many hours. I fill up baby bottles with water just before baby boy eats and have pre-measured formula that I mix in. This way no bottle warmers needed and it's super fast.

Thats a really good idea for nighttime feedings!! I've started pre mixing before going to bed and refrigerating but they take longer to heat up and at 3 am when LO is hungry that's not so much fun lol

This is what I have always done and it works well.
  • I bought a bunch of the premixed bottles from amazon

  • When we would supplement with DS on the go, we would just premeasure scoops of formula into the Medela bottles you use for pumping, then bring a large bottle of boiling water (knowing it would cool down enough to use by the time we needed it, or if still too hot, we could add cold water from a bottle, or glass on the table if at a restaurant); then when it came time to feed, just poured in the right amount of water, dumped the premeasured formula into the bottle, shake, and voila!

i picked up one of the dr browns formula pitchers today... little A will take a room temp or slightly chilled bottle so Im hoping that will ease the "i just realised im hungry and i might die due to this fact" meltdowns we have... especially trying to avoid them once we start formula overnight. we put them in a cup of warm water from the tap to take the chill off for 30ish seconds and she takes them just fine.

i use the drop ins and trying the vent air bottles... how does the group avoid clumping when mixing the bottles? I find this to be the most frustrating part and it seems to take forever to get them worked out.

Lucky you that little A takes them slightly chilled. Mine makes funny faces and won't even take the nipple in her mouth unless it's warmed lol nighttime feeding is quite the adventure trying to keep her calm!

For the clumping, I add the formula to room temp water or slightly warm and then shake.. Not sure if that's what you were asking?
