Uh oh...

My Dh is turning 30 this weekend! I decided (awhile ago) to throw him a 30th Surprise party. Our house has been under complete reno for almost 2 years and his 30 goal was to get the house done.

It is *almost* done, but we still have to paint and my uncle still needs to hook in the toilet and sink, and we need to pass inspection. But the downstairs and party space is done, and enough that it's not embarrassing (we also hosted some family for easter last weekend).

Anyway, I decided to tell my DH the "game plan" for his birthday, which I said we were going to the park to walk the dog in the AM (true), he was going to a baseball game with my brother (true, but he thought it was weird just the two of them) and then a dinner party with my parents to celebrate the house (obv false), and I was going to make lasagna (also false). He was a little sad I wasn't going to the game and I should have planned ahead with the lasagna or we should go out to eat haha.

However, he said I picked the two and three of the least favorite things to do for his birthday which was a bro day baseball game and a dinner party. He said he was upset that the dinner party had the "celebrate the goal" attached to it, but he was just thankful that there wasn't a surprise party with the same attached goal, as that would be his least favorite option!

Uh oh, that's exactly what I did! But, it's Cinco De Mayo theme too, and none of our friends have really seen our new place yet, so hopefully once he's there he will be happy! Hopefully I didn't screw up his birthday. He's not really a surprise type guy, so this should be interesting! Do you think I should remove any evidence that it was a "celebrate his goal, blah blah" type party and concentrate on the fiesta?! Hoping he won't be too mad.........

    I think I have to agree with @calindi as well.  If your DH wanted something special for his birthday, he should have voiced his opinion.  You are doing something to celebrate his birthday, and he should be grateful.  If he wants to be a party-pooper, whatever...but you go ahead and enjoy the party!  And celebrate that your house is finally renovated!

    DH and I had just started dating when he turned 30.  We had been dating for about 4 months at this time.  For his 30th, he had taken a week of vacation.  One of his good friends from PA came into town, and a bunch of his friends came over and just partied & hung out.  The interesting part...came to when they decided to tear off the wood paneling in the living room.  They were ripping it off and jumping into the walls (obviously drunk), to help get the paneling off.  DH had talked about re-doing his living room, and just making it dry-wall.  So, they decided to get started :)  It looked a lot better once DH was done!

    Aug 2013 - SA: Counts & Motility = great, Morph = 1%; RE didn't seem too concerned

    Me: 26
    Jan. 2014 - Blood work ordered by obgyn:  Prolactin = high & AMH = low (0.73)
    Feb. 6, 2014 - Repeat blood work ordered by obgyn:  Prolactin = normal & AMH = low (0.9)
    Feb.  20, 2014 - First appointment with RE
    Feb. 24, 2014 - HSG scheduled;  DX:  one tube definitely open & one tube could be blocked
    Mar. 7, 2014 - CD 21 Blood work for Progesterone; DX:  Progesterone level at 5.2; shows I ovulated but was low
    Mar. 28, 2014 - Laparoscopy; DX:  Tubes open.  Found some endometriosis and had that removed.
     
    History:
    Started TTC:  June 2012
    June 2012 - March 2013:  When it Happens/it happens method = BFN
    March 2013:  Started using Fertility Friend
    Cycles 1 - 15 with Fertility Friend = BFN
    Cycle 16 - Benched due to Laparoscopy
    Cycle 17 - Natural Cycle = BFN
    Cycle 18 - Natural Cycle = BFN
    Cycle 19 - Natural Cycle = BFN
     

    Current Cycle:
    Cycle 20 = Natural Cycle

    Hopefully you two will have a big laugh when he realizes that you did just the thing he pooh-poohed!!

    A similar story that might give you hope - on my parents' first date to meet dad's parents, they sat outside in the evening and chatted with my grandma about house colors. My mom expressed that any house color was okay except pink, she just hated pink.

    You can guess what color the light of day showed my grandma's house to be. :) But they are the best of friends and both laugh about it to this day.

    For DH's 30th (2+ months ago), I really didn't do anything. I told him if he could wait until school let out, I will do something very special for him. No idea what it will be, though! He needed a new phone so I pushed him to get a nicer one he liked and called it an "early-late" birthday present.

    Thanks everyone! He did ask not to have a party two months ago, but the idea was already stuck in my head at that point and he only mentioned it once.

     I'll just ignore his pity party until Saturday, and hopefully he will like it :) A lot of friends are driving 1+ hours for it, so hopefully that will cheer him up about turning 30!
