Baby measuring 15 days ahead at a/s

Just wondering if anyone else had this experience. I think I'm one of the very last to have my anatomy scan (and everything is healthy -- just measuring two weeks ahead, across the board). If baby was measuring this far ahead, did your due date change?

My doctor usually does her own ultrasounds, but with the storm last night, her equipment and phones were screwy, so she sent me to the hospital to have the scan. I'm not going to be able to talk to her about it before tomorrow or Thursday, depending on when their phones are back up.

Re: Baby measuring 15 days ahead at a/s

  • Age scans at this point are extremely unreliable. While two weeks difference seems a bit extreme, I'm not sure if they would change your due date? But I'm not a doctor. I measured 10 days ahead with my son at 20 weeks, and STILL had to push for an induction when DS was 4 days overdue! It was for other health reasons, not just to get him out, BTW.

  • With DS, my due date was moved because he was measuring 7 days ahead at the A/S. After the date was changed, he always measured on track with the new date, including a late ultrasound.

  • Wow, that is quite a difference! Is this your first ultrasound?

They moved me up one week at my first appointment after a dating ultrasound. Since then, I've had three ultrasounds, and he has measured right on track, a day ahead and a day behind.

  • My baby measures 4 days ahead. Seeing as that's basically a no biggie, my due date has not changed. My OB says generally speaking if your baby measures 7 days or more of your original EDD, there's a good chance it will change.

I had a dating ultrasound at what I thought was 7w5d (based on when I thought my last period was ... we were not keeping track of anything because we weren't really trying, just not preventing), and baby measured 6w6d.

ETA: I turned a pregnancy test, at night, within seconds, about 3.5 weeks before this first u/s.

After having placenta issues with our first child when the doctor said I was "only" a week past due (when I think it was more like 2+ weeks), I just don't want to have the same type of issues with this baby. I would rather have a slightly earlier due date and be allowed to go up to two weeks late, putting me back near my dating u/s EDD. It has nothing to do with being impatient or wanting to get baby out sooner, it has to do with wanting to make a healthy choice for me and my baby, based on my previous experience.

  • Thanks for all the responses. I do at least feel better knowing other folks have had similar experiences and that it ended up being fairly normal or nothing to worry about.

  • At our dating ultrasound, we got several measurements that were all further along than what my LMP suggested I should be, but they were in line with how far along I thought I was based on my ovulation testing. They took the middle one. At our AS, she didn't say anything to me about the baby's size, but on the paper, it looks like all her measurements were about a week behind except one. She didn't say anything to me, and I'm not worried. I was a small baby, and I hope she will be small (but healthy) too!

  • As a follow-up, I did call my doctor's office this morning, and they didn't seem too concerned about the size. They have not received the u/s results yet, but the receptionist said we would just talk about it at my next appointment in four weeks.

  • I must be the only one whos baby is running small... Only by a week or so, but we go in for another ultra sound with a specialist because of some shadows on LO heart and possible DS markers... Im terrified, for my baby boy, but realize that there is nothing that can be done... im glad everyone is having healthy babies, though...
  • @Gapin1aj, You may not have seen my post, but at our AS, our baby was measuring about a week behind on most things too, which I have read is nothing to worry about. T&Ps that everything goes well with your other situation, though.
