UPDATE -- Pelvic Girdle Pain

edited May 2014 in October 2014 Moms
I have been having what I thought was sciatic nerve pain but when I looked it up, it sounds more like pelvic girdle pain which is much more common in pregnancy actually. I have a big meal to prepare for tomorrow and it hurts to walk, sit, lie down, get up, pretty much anything. Ive almost been in tears.

Anyone know what I can do? Would tylenol help? Stretches?

UPDATE-so the pain kept getting worse. My DH had to lift me out of bed this morning and I was in tears because of the pain. I went into the dr today and she prescribed me stronger pain meds and physical therapy. :(

It varies for me each day. Some days I can't bend over to put the dishes away, then the next day feel fine. Sitting really makes it worse for me. I would say take the tylenol to take the edge off tomorrow and try and move around every hour for 5-10 minutes if you have a desk job or are on a marathon Netflix binge sesh.

  • Get a maternity belt NOW, trust me I say you are headed toward Spd and it sucks. Wear it all the time.

Eventually it will feel like a steel toe boot kicking your girl bits on the bone ever step.. If you can step, hah you take.

I ended up with it so bad I was on bed rest last time.

Any recs? I used a simple belly band later in the last pregnancy and it offered enough support I didnt need anything else. But I wasnt having this pain then either.
  • Let me see what I got
  • I have the ultimate maternity belt

And the maternity support belt from Destination maternity.

    They both worked really well
  • Thanks so much. Ill be ordering one asap!
  • I suggest laying them next to your bed and putting it on before you get up. It helps keep your hips in place before your belly puts pressure down on it
  • On another board, someone recommended looking up Gary Crowley's Youtube videos on Pelvic Girdle Pain.  I watched a couple and I think it helped a little.  Basically, it contains stretches that you can do with a tennis ball on the area that's hurting.  My painful area is on my left buttock (that is so weird to type!) so I was able to work on the affected tissue with a tennis ball.  I hope that helps!

Q: This isn't tailbone pain after sitting is it?

Its def not my tailbone. Ive had a little tailbone pain but this is more in my buttocks.

Sorry, to clarify that's what I have (tailbone pain) but I haven't heard of pelvic girdle pain so I was wondering what exactly it is. Hope you feel better :(

Sry! I misunderstood! I was looking up sciatic nerve pain and saw a reference to PGP. The Dr didnt diagnose me with anything specific. Im just assuming it is what I have.
  • I'm so sorry.  I hope you feel better soon  :(

  • I'm sorry you're feeling so bad. I've had that type of pain in my left hip/butt for the last couple of weeks and all my dr said was to do stretches. I'm thinking I'll pick up a maternity belt too. Good luck!!
