Birth Control

For those of us coming up on our 6 week check ups I am curious as to what everyone does for birth control. I have taken the pill before but got pregnant while on it. Any recommendations? I am not breastfeeding so supply is not an issue.

I go Wednesday and I can't decide if I'm getting the mini pull or another iud. I'm hoping my midwife can help me decide.

Condoms, and then we'll decide in the next year if we're for sure done and DH will get a vasectomy.

We use the withdrawal method (and don't pray). If done correctly it has the same failure rate as condoms and my husband does it correctly. We used it for three years before TTC and got pregnant the first month we stopped preventing. This time around I might use charting in conjunction (I charted before but we never avoided sex during my fertile week) but that's because I'm paranoid about another pregnancy soon after this one.

It's not for everyone and you can't half-ass it but hormonal bc is not a good thing for me.

Either mini pill or IUD. I'm leaning toward Mirena. I'm not crazy about how the mini pill only works for 22 hours, and I suck at taking a pill at the same exact time every day because I have a work schedule that changes all the time.

Just condoms as long as I'm BFing. My doc doesn't recommend any other kind of BC for nursing moms.

I'm all aboard the Mirena band wagon. I know everyone responds to various birth controls differently, but I loved that thing. I was a little freaked by the idea of an iud initially but my midwife talked me into it and I'm so glad she did!

Withdrawal method for us! Worked for a year after the wedding and we got pregnant the first month we stopped. Might be a bit more cautious and use condoms for a bit but haven't decided.

I can't decide. I really don't want to go on the mini pill cause I suck at taking pills on time. We might just go the pull & pray route but I REALLY don't want to get pregnant anytime soon so idk if it will be enough protection for my strong feelings about having only one kid for the next 3-5 years lol...so we might just use condoms. I'm also considering an IUD but I'm kind of nervous about trying it.

Its either Implanon or Nexplanon (Implanon is the "old" name) - I had this pre-pregnancy and LOVED it. Got pregnant 2 weeks after getting it out. I will be going with this. If baby ever decideds to come...

I'm planning on going with Mirena. I am a little nervous about having something in like that but I hate having to remember to take a pill. That is the one my Dr is recommending so I will try it.

I was on the mini pill before. Probably going to go back on it. I almost laughed at the doctors when they gave me a prescription for the pill to have filled at cvs when I was discharged. Really people? You cut my stomach open, pulled out a baby, and I look like an elephant from the waist down.... I'm all set with having sex for those recommended 6 weeks.... and maybe then some!

Using pull out and pray resulted in this LO (who I love dearly) so we are arguing about condoms, vasectomy, and abstinence. I don't want him to get a vasectomy because I want another kid, he doesn't, we both hate condoms, and I want to look into the pill while breast feeding because I don't understand how it wouldn't effect the milk.

I feel more nervous NOW to get pregnant than I did before (and baby is still in utero). I just cant imagine being pregnant again so soon. I don't feel safe with pullout and definitely refuse to hassle with condoms. I would go back on pill..but after reading through this thread, I will talk to my gyno about the "arm thing" or maybe even the IUD would be best.

We are going to use condoms until I am done bf. I am going to stop bf when I go back to work when LO is 3 months. Then I will go back on the pill.

I don't do well taking hormones. We've relied on pulling out for years but this LO (our first) was an accident...but tbh we were planning on TTC within a few months so we were being increasingly sloppy about it because we both wanted a baby. Still not sure I feel comfortable relying on it again because I am definitely nowhere near ready to get pregnant again. I'm thinking maybe a diaphragm or something? Not the most effective but better than nothing. I have 2 sisters who got pregnant with IUDs so they make me really nervous even though I know they're the most effective

For those of you going with pull & pray, I suggest also using a lubricant with spermicide. Still not perfect, but it helps.

I'm on the mini pill while breast feeding. I would love the Mirena, but my insurance doesn't cover birth control, so that's not an option right now. My OB said she heard that they may be coming out with a generic for Mirena soon. Hope so!

I'm getting the Mirena @ 8 wks pp. (I'm only 2wks pp right now) we are still deciding how many kids we want but we both agree we don't want another for at least a year, maybe two years, because I have now had 2 csection and my body needs time to heal.

I would like you to meet "pull and pray" and his new little brother"condoms". This coming from a momma with pcos and endometriosis. I am wanting to do more research but I may get mirena because I don't do well on the pill and obviously the more conservative methods aren't as effective as I thought. Still, I wouldn't trade either little boy for the world... God's timing was perfect

On @Sunshinelou‌'s track, fertility issues can reset after a full term pregnancy- I needed the drugs to get pregnant the first time (miscarriage) and second time, but third was free of charge- just because it took 3 years and several doctors for this one doesn't mean it will for the next.
