Speaking of blood boiling...Alicia Silverstone

Have you all heard of this gem of a book about infertility and childbirth written recently by none other than renowned expert-in-the-field Alicia Silverstone? A guide to it all from someone who we should all trust and love, someone who chews the food for her children and spits it into their mouths as though its normal. Quotes from the book include:

"When did making babies get to be so hard? Infertility is on the rise globally, affecting as many as one in six couples. But instead of considering diet and lifestyle factors, doctors pump their patients full of expensive and invasive fertility treatments.

and

"Eat well, get healthy, then ditch all the planning and trying and just let it flow. There’s no better way to make a baby than with yummy, soulful sex!”

She's clearly an idiot and this book peeves me. I also read this blog post about it this morning and it describes my irritation better than I ever could. Did you ladies know that all we had to do to get pregnant was to have yummy, soulful sex and stop using tampons?

you know, i used to really like her. and i totally respect people who follow a plant-based whole foods way of living. there is a lot of merit to that.

but to even consider speaking about infertility causes you really need to do your homework. and you must acknowledge that there is a large population out there who is not going to conceive without ART no matter how many vegetables we eat, exercise we do, and vitamins we take. sorry alicia, my DH's genetic defect isn't going to go away by magically consuming kale.

although i really do like kale.

what the hell kind of publisher gets behind blanket statements like that? infuriating!!

Wow. I don't even know what to say to that. I really am shocked that people have this opinion and are brazen enough to put it in writing. Does she think there won't be backlash from this?? I wish veggies in my diet and soulful sex would have worked!

This is just insulting. Yeah, it was really fun injecting myself for almost 4 years, multiple surgeries, 2m/cs and spending $50K. I didn't know I could "just" have sex...

Oh, I didn't realize that eating veggies would re-grow the ovaries and tubes cancer took. The only thing I will say is that apparently she is full of luck and ignorance...and should keep her mouth shut until she has walked a mile in someone else's shoes.

Yummy soulful sex must mean sex between one person with a good sperm count of active "normal" sperm and one person with young eggs, regular ovulation, clear and in place tubes, a clear and naturally lucious uterus, etc.

Well, she is officially in my "stupid" book. I still fail to understand how being in a movie or on a tv show makes anyone qualified to give advice on infertility, psychology, immunizations, etc. all of these "stars" should really just stick to acting and the rest of the time stfu.

Uggg. . redonkulous!!! I'm glad her star credentials give her the right to tell us IFers as well as doctors that treat us that there is such a simple solution. Why didn't any of us think of this?!? I also don't understand how publishers can publish this crap. I think of all the hoops I have to go through to get a scientific paper published - where it is peer reviewed by experts in the field. These types of books like hers or Jenny Mccarthy should be labeled opinion (or "Advice from Clueless Celebrities"). Another celebrity is now added to my do not watch list.
