Favorite home birth techniques

I will be birthing my baby at home when the time comes. I have purchased a birthing tub made of all organic materials. I have purchased a few celine dion CDs to keep my mood relaxed and upbeat. Any other suggestions? I do plan to do it as unassisted as possible but my husband will be there just incase. I just want to know from you ladies if there's anything I should have in the house to insure that the mood stays pleasant and upbeat. Thank you.

Re: Favorite home birth techniques

  • I won't be needing those

  • Nothing will go wrong. I have read several home birthing books and seen lots of videos. My husband will be there and he can contact someone if needs be. But I just feel in my heart nothing will go wrong
  • I think it's time for someone to go to bed....

    Oh goodnight sweetie!

  • I hope to god that you or this is some kind of joke. If this is real and you want a home birth all good for you. But you need to have a medical assistance there being in a midwife or doula form. Not only have you not gotten an ultrasound done but you have no chance of helping yourself or your baby if the baby is breeched or gets stuck and no you just can't learn what to do from watching videos and you can not get help there in time if something does go wrong if nothing was to great that's how you planned but births don't always go as planned you need someone that is professionally trained there in case. Even if they are there in the room you can still have it unassisted but please go get a midwife. If not for you but for your unborn child. Have you even gone to see a doctor to make sure everything is ok to hear the heartbeat make sure you are getting enough vitamins that you need anything?

  • I've watched lots of videos of releasing my dog's anal glands but I sure as hell am not attempting it at home.

    Oh, you could totally pull this off! Just watch what the fluid touches. The smell is a bitch to get rid of/

    Yes I have been seeing a doctor and take seven different types of vitamins. Just because I said I refuse ultrasounds doesn't mean I don't believe in doctors silly! My mom has 6 unassisted births so I was also hoping to accomplish that
  • You definitely need someone to periodically ring Tibetan bells to conduct the birth energy.

    This is a really great idea thank you!

    My bff actually does this to her dog at her house. I was over there one time and it squirted across the room. It was pretty gross.
    hi

  • I've done that to all four of my dogs.
  • Do your cats get jealous?

    Extremely! But cats are a naturals jealous species. As I'm sure you know. You look like a bit of a cat woman yourself! How many cats do you have?

  • I tire of this.

  • The only thing I have to add is to make sure you diffuse essential oils.  There's one called Gentle Baby that would be right up your alley.  Much safer than candles if a cat were to knock them over.

  • Aggggh Céline Dion would drive me batty, have you considered Enya? And I'm with @jnnfrrose6 the diffusers are a subtle way of bringing essential oils in your environment, try lavender, its very gentle for calming and has many other therapeutic benefits.

    @abundancenow

    Lavender?! What are you thinking?! It could put the baby in a sleepy state & he/she could begin to snore which would make delivery 100 times harder. OMG, you & @jnnfrrose6 are sooooo lame. =;

    I'd like to point out I wasn't the one who suggested lavender, just oils.  Personally, I find lavender really gross in oil form (no problem with the plant, just can't handle the oil for some reason).  Thieves is really good to help keep things clean, and I do like to run purification in DS's humidifier when he isn't feeling well.  I like the citrus in that.

    Then again, if you're worried about the baby being sleepy, peppermint also gives me a boost, and valor's another good one to keep everyone's energy up.
  • @aliletz Whatever works. :)

    Does it have to be in oil form or can OP just eat boatloads of peppermint?

    @jnnfrrose6 is correct, I take responsibility for being the lameo suggesting lavender.
    I wouldn't dare blame pregnancy brain.
    I do so love lavender, but you're correct, we don't want sleeping babies snoring through home birth. Maybe peppermint during the pushing, and @Skeemer, I saw diffusing allows everyone the chance to share the impact of the oils.
    @Caitlinrj I just got my kit last week also and am enjoying blending the oils to be diffused.

    Well then it's settled. OP definitely needs an impact.

  • @abundancenow & @Caitlinrj I have a very good friend who is all about Young Living and got me into it.  I used frankincense after DS was born for my stretch marks and c-section scar.  I don't have not using it to compare to, but I like to think it made a difference.  I've been using it during this pregnancy this time to try and get ahead of any new marks.  Again, nothing to compare it to since I don't have a clone, but I haven't seen anything new...yet.
  • I...still can't get over her buying Celine Dion CD's.

  • I hope you give the placenta to your pets when you're done birthing it.  It's great for their coats.

  • I didn't think anything would go wrong with the birth of my son...we'd both be dead without intervention. Hope your husband is good with things like surgery, if needed.

  • My husband and I are thinking about smoking some weed before the birth to ensure a calm atmosphere.
