Birth Stone

My BF and I were looking at Mother's Day's rings for our moms and we got to talking about those birth stone rings. We were discussing about how if we're ever blessed with the large family we want, that we would like to remember the baby we just lost in that too. I was curious if you would use the birthstone of the month of miscarriage, the month of the EDD, or the month of the BFP (I like this idea because the day I found out I was pregnant was the happiest moment of my life). However, I'm leaning toward the month of the loss but I'm just curious what most would think. Thanks!

Re: Birth Stone

  • I bought a necklace with the birth flower of the EDD month, which conveniently was the same for both of my losses (also conveniently it's a gladiolus which represents "remembrance"). One way I acknowledged the other dates was to donate money to our local children's hospital on the actual due date of the first loss (the second hasn't come up yet) and I chose to donate $125.18 b/c I got the BFP on Dec 5th (12.5) and discovered the missed miscarriage on Jan 8th (1.8).

  • I bought a necklace with the birthstone of my EDD month (November).  I feel that if the baby was supposed to be born in November then November's birthstone would have been the baby's birthstone, but you should do what you feel is right for you.

  • I think you should do what feels natural to you all of these are solid options and what matters most is what feels the best to you.  I would be inclined to do the month of loss because that would be a remembrance of when the baby was last with me.  If I was further along (I was only 8 weeks) then the EDD would probably feel more right to me.
  • Month of loss. My babies were born in April and January so I wanted those stones.

  • I felt this was a hard thing for me to reconcile. I chose EDD for my pendant, but if it had been a 2nd tri or 3rd tri loss, I would have used the loss date.

    ****living child mentioned*****

DS was born 6 weeks early, so obv I use his birthday for his birthstone as opposed to the EDD. I went round and round with considering using the loss date because the logic is the same. But then I questioned what exactly was the loss date... When we were diagnosed? When the heart stopped beating? When I had the d&c? My head started spinning and I felt EDD was clearer for me in my situation.
