Shortening Cervix

Hi Ladies,
I had an ultrasound done on Friday. They found that my cervix is short. So i have a high chance of a pre term labour. Has anyone experienced this in the past? Do you normally go early or make it to at least 37 weeks?
Thanks

  • Sorry i guess that wasn't much information. I went in for an ultrasound because i have GD and they want to keep track of baby's size and they did the intra vaginally ultrasound and found that my cervix is shortening. The first OB never told me and the second one showed me and the low end was 1.7 i didn't see what the other number was. They have taken me off work and exercise.
They have given me the 2 doses of steroid shots to help develop baby's lungs faster. My cervix measurements have been normal all along.
I'm not one to sit around, plus my husband and i are get possession of a new house this week. Apparently i can't do a thing :(  Hope this information helps a little more.
  • At 1.5 they put me on straight bedrest. I can go to the bathroom and take a quick shower using a chair. I am to be on bedrest until week 34 after which they don't care if the babies wanna come.

It sucks not being able to do anything, but you gotta do it to protect those babies.

We should start a bed rest buddy thread one of these days, I think we are up to 5 people now who sit around. :)

Agreed @Ylvelill‌ ! By the way my cervix went from 3.3 cm at 21 wk + 3 to between 1.8-2.0 cm at 21 wk + 5. Went on home bedrest at 21+5. It measured 1.6 cm at 23 wk + 5 and I got sent to the hospital for bedrest there - got the works (steriod shots, magnesium IV, antibiotic IV, FFN test, etc). A week later I got discharged due to no contractions and a negative FFN although cervix measured around 1.4 cm that day, which was 24 wk + 5. Was told to stay on strict bedrest at home. Re-measured at 25 wk + 4 and still 1.4 cm. Measured again at 26 wk + 5 and it was between 2.4-2.9 cm! Doctor said I can go on less strict bedrest... To get up and walk around every day and even run an errand if I want to. Both OB & perinatal agree no more cervical length measurement checks after 28 weeks are necessary at this point. Perinatal said unless I'm having preterm labor symptoms it's safe to leave it be but to stick with the current bedrest situation (minimal errands, etc) in order to prevent pre term labor in general. Wanted to give you some hope! And yes it sucks I know! Sorry this is all one paragraph, using my iPad.

I am on limited bed rest due to preterm labor at 27w1d and fear of a uterine rupture. My OB has been measuring my cervix biweekly since 18 weeks. Mine has frown from 3.9 to 4.4 which is great. Even after the preterm labor and three days of Magnesium in the hospital mine did not shorten. I say stay positive and keep up the bed rest. I was told anything under 2.5 is cause for concern.

  • Mine was less than 2.5 at 26 weeks and I am being sent for another ultrasound to measure cervical length next week. At this point, I am on reduced activity and have been taken off work. If the ultrasound shows it has shortened anymore, I will be given steroid shots and will be probably be put on bed rest until 34 weeks. Hang in there, bed rest sucks (I was on it with my first pregnancy for the same reason) but totally worth it to keep that baby baking!
