Preemies

Intro

I was due July 7th (2014), but went into labor unexpectedly at 2AM 4/27/14. I arrived at the hospital at 4AM and was already 7cm dilated. Alexander Kenneth was born at 10:01AM at 29 weeks, 2 days. He was 3lbs, 2oz... a full pound heavier than what we were told to expect. He was transferred to another hospital right away and I only got to see him for about 5 mins.

I don't really know what to expect in the weeks to come, but so far he is doing better than what they expected. I hope to find some good info and support on this board, like I did on my bmb.

TIA and I am looking forward to learning from you ladies and your LOs.

Congratulations on the birth of your son, but I'm sorry you have to join us. That must have been a really scary experience. I'm glad he seems to be doing better than expected. My DD is also a summer baby turned spring baby, due last July but was born in may at 31 weeks 3 days. There are several moms of 29 weekers on the board who should be able to give you some insight. Wishing you a short & uneventful NICU stay! Oh and I love your DS's name!

  • Congratulations! My twin boys were born nearly 25 months ago at 29w4d. 3lbs2oz is a great birth weight for his gestation! I hope his NICU journey is quick and easy. My boys spent exactly two months in the NICU which is pretty typical for 29 weekers.

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • Congratulations on your baby boy! 3 pounds is a great weight!

My 29 weeker was just over 2 pounds when he was born. We are beginning our 2nd month in the NICU and it has been pretty uneventful so far. We are mostly just waiting for him to learn how to feed from a bottle and to get up to 4 lbs.

Hoping Alexander has a short stay in the NICU!

  • Congratulations to you and welcome to Mr Alexander! Sounds like a pretty scary turn of events. He is a very good size and hoping that lends to his short NICU stay.

  • Congrats and welcome!

My 29-weeker was 2lb 3oz when she was born and had a 66 day NICU stay. We've been home since October and she'll be 9 months on Sunday. She's doing great! She came home on o2, but has been off for three months and is doing amazing!

Wishing you a quick and uneventful NICU stay!

  • Thank you ladies! I love hearing how well your LOs are doing and it gives me great hope for my son. I'm trying so hard not to get my hopes up more with every updated, because every nurse I have talked to has used the rollercoaster metaphor. I'm praying we are in for a kiddie-coaster :)

  • Congratulations :)  Welcome to the board, pull up a chair, grab some coffee or tea.  This isn't where any of us wanted to end up, but talk about amazing company and support :)

I agree on the kiddie coaster!  For us, I can look back and see the roller coaster, but I didn't feel like I noticed the hills.  I think survival mode just leaves you taking one step at a time and during the lows you come find support and make the climb back up <3
