Bartholin's cyst removal?

I posted about this cyst a while back and a few of you (forgive me, I can't remember who) replied saying you'd had them removed before.  My cyst removal is scheduled for May 2, I wondered if anyone could tell me what to expect?

Thanks!

Re: Bartholin's cyst removal?

  • Bumping in the hopes that someone will be able to give me some insight.  I'm getting this thing removed/drained/whatever they do with them on Friday and wasn't sure what to expect in terms of recovery time and discomfort.  Thanks!

  • I had a cyst removed a few times. With me, they used a topical lidocaine cream where they planned on injecting the liquid form so I didn't feel the needle. After that kicked in, they lanced and drained it then I just kept a telfa on it and used a peri bottle when using restroom. The second time they numbed it the same way but packed it with packing tape and used a telfa and I just kept it clean til packing came out on its own. They gave me Tylenol 3s both times. No baths or swimming til healed. It was uncomfortable to sit the first day. With having it packed it began to feel sore as packing came out. Just having it drained it was uncomfortable and sore 3 days. The packing took a week or so. Try not to do a lot of walking. Hang in there. It sounds pretty gross and all but you'll feel a lot better with it gone.
  • Oh girl, those are painful! I felt immediate relief after they lanced it.

  • I was actually put under when I had one removed a few years ago but it was still just an out patient procedure.  They lanced it and then I had stitches that dissolved.  It was definitely sore but I thought having the cyst was extremely painful so the removal was a relief.

  • Thanks for the info, ladies.  Mine doesn't hurt that much yet but it's growing and getting a bit sore, so the OB and I agreed we should nip it in the bud.  They're doing it in the office, so hopefully it'll be fairly simple?

  • I had one 5 years ago that abcessed. They did put me under (outpatient surgery though).  I had to take sitz baths, they had packed it so I had to remove that after a few days.  It didn't feel good to remove it.  I was sore for over a week, but did not go through nearly all the pain meds they gave me.  I really had a much more difficult time getting over my wisdom teeth extraction -- way more painful.  :)
