2nd induction

Tonight I'm going to be induced for the second time. Two pregnancies, two inductions. Seems like my babies can't find the exit or they too comfortable in there!

First induction was a long process - 2 cervidil + pitocin. Active labor was 11 hours and I pushed for 2 hours. I will be on cervidil again tonight.

Who ever had a similar experience? Is it true that the labour is about 1/2 the time for a 2nd baby?

Please excuse the mistakes, English is not my mother tongue.

Re: 2nd induction

  • It's true generally, but certainly not always. Hopefully it all goes smoothly for you!

  • I think that statistic applies more to natural births than inductions, but generally they say subsequent labors are faster. My first labor was about 11 hours from the very start of contractions and I was not induced. I was induced with this LO and it was about 6.5 hours start to finish, but they were generous with the pitocin so you can't really compare the two IMO.

  • Both of mine were inductions. DS was cervadil for 18 hours, then pitocin, water broken, epidural that failed. From start of what I would say were real contractions to birth 9.5 hrs. I went from 1cm to 10 in 9.5 hours. Dd was two doses of gel, admitted while in early labour, pitocin 3 hours after that, and birth with epidural after " real" contractions 7.5 hours. I went from 2cm to 10 in 5 hours.

    Then we had you.

    Now we are complete.

  • I had two inductions. I was 16 days overdue with the first and 40w1 day with the second. The cytotec/cervadil was shorter with my first, but active labor was shorter with my second.
