I decided on Carter about 10 years ago before I was even old enough to be thinking of babies. I still love it, but I know it was really popular about 5 years ago. It's been going down in popularity, but if I name my hypothetical boy Carter, do you think he will be lumped in with the trend or has it been long enough that the hype has died down?

I only know one Carter. I don't think it's that popular. My name was apparently in the top 40 when I was born, and I've only met 4 other people with my name.

Carter is still rising in popularity. It is a perfectly fine name, but if you want to choose a name that is becoming less popular, Carter does not fit the bill.

My ds is 2 and his name is Carter. I am a teacher and have not had a Carter in my classroom ever ( been there for 14 years)

I haven't met any Carters and there hasn't been one in my DS and DD's grades. I love Carter and think you should definitely use it if you love it.

I know 2 Carters both are 2yo. I am not the biggest fan of the name, but both are cute cute kids.

I think if you love the name and use it. Olivia is super popular but if I had a girl I would try to use it. (Try=convince dh) I have loved that name since I was in high school.

I only know of one little boy named Carter. I think if you love it you should use it though, regardless of popularity.

It seems like every little boy I meet around here is named Carter. (I know 5 personally) It was my first pick until I realized how popular it was, so we choose Mason bc we had never met a Mason. Huge mistake bc its even more popular then Carter

My nephew is Carter, and he is the smartest kid his age I've ever known of (he could sound out most words at 2 1/2). Only Carter I know, too. I DO think the name is kind of dated, but that's not going to affect his job options down the road, and it's not like the top 10 names are as ubiquitous as they once were (re Jennifer) - if you love the name, go with it.

I feel your name-timing pain. My favorite boys names, dating back to about '98, were Aidan and Grayson.

My son is named Carter, he's 4 1/2. It was the only name my husband and I could agree on and it suits him perfectly. I love it, but I know it is not everyone's cup of tea.
