Anti depressants after first baby?

Did anyone feel the need for anti depressants or anti anxiety medicine after having there first child? My daughter is six months old and I feel the new stress has really changed my moods, I'm such a worried wreck all the time it effects how I treat the people around me and just how I feel in general. I feel maybe an anti depressant could help me calm down a little. Has anyone tried this if so what kind?

  • First of all, good for you for recognising this about yourself! I have had 4 children over the last 15 years and I had PPD after every single one of them on top of my 'normal' depression. Medications have saved my life!
It seems anxiety/stress levels change a lot once a baby comes, you're responsible for another human being..EEK!
Try to do simple lil things for yourself throughout the day..maybe a new flavored coffee, paint your toes, do your eyebrows..even go through your closet and get rid of some stuff for donation. You will feel better :) If you get frustrated with baby then put her safe in her crib and get in the shower for a few minutes or go sit outside. Just give yourself the time to gather yourself, there's nothing wrong with that.
FWIW, I am on 20mg Cipralex and 300mg Wellbutrin daily. These have made a huge difference in my life and help me to function every day. Make sure to communicate with your doctor about your mental status as often as you can, especially if you start to feel worse.
All you can do is try your best love. You can do this!! Good luck xo

  • I recommend you speak with a professional.  Kudos for recognizing that things are off and you are struggling. Have you shared your feelings with your significant other?  Getting a good support system around you is really important.
