C-Section and a Tubal? Maybe?

I'm come to terms with the fact that I'll be having a c-section (finally).
Since we met, DH and I have said 2 and we're done and he had already talked to a doctor about a vasectomy this summer but now that I'll already be cut open, does it make more sense for me to the one who is "sterilized"?
Are there any complications associated with doing a tubal right after?
I plan on talking to my doctor Tuesday but I was curious other people's thoughts!

  • My oldest sister had three c/s, and a tubal during the third. She didn't suffer any complications. Definitely talk to your doctor, though. He will be able to point you in the best direction for you.

  • I plan to have a tubal during my c/s. Really only takes a few minutes longer and shouldn't cause any complications.

  • I got my tubal 3 wks ago with my c-section. I dont think it was really any worst than recovering from a c-section normally. In fact because Noah has been in the NICU for the last 3 weeks I have had no real rest time and I'm not doing to bad. My first c-section I was in bed for a few weeks to recover. I would check with your insurance though before you make up your mind. My insurance required a 30 day preauthorization period before they would pay for my tubal so I had to make up my mind and sign the papers 30 days prior to the operation or it would have been out of pocket.

  • I am getting a tubal this time (will be my 3rd c/s). I just did all of my pre-op stuff at the hospital on Friday. She asked what I wanted for pain meds and I said I would like to just have Morrton. She said I will need somethig a little stronger bc I will most likely be cramping more bc of the tubal. I was surprised bc my OB told me it wasn't any different.

My biggest concern is milk production. I've read it can get messed up because the horomone changes but I'll be checking with my doctor on Tuesday!

Very interesting. I've never heard this. I have a tubal ligation scheduled during my RCS. Doc said it'd add about 4 minutes to the surgery.

  • I'm having a tubal the day after my delivery- they just go in around belly button. Recovery shouldn't be too bad- heard cramping after is worse.

Some quick research I just found scared me, and I was planning the same. I need to look into it more and ask my doctor!

  • I'm getting a tubal when I have my C-section.  I'll never get my H to get snipped and this has to be our last baby, no room for accidents....my liver can't handle another pregnancy.  I've looked into it a lot and it doesn't add any risks that aren't already there in the major abdominal surgery that is a C-section.

  • I'm having an ovary removed during my c-section and it would be so easy to have her tie the other tube while she's in there, but I just can't bring myself to do something permanent yet even though I'm almost positive this will be our last baby. I have commitment issues.
