For your shower host

Speaking of baby showers... For those of you who know you are having one or had one in the past, do you plan to/did you give the person/s hosting the shower some type of a "thank-you" gift? Or just send a thank-you note?

Re: For your shower host

  • My two sisters and mom threw my shower. I made little gift bags with a few lotions and lip balms from an all natural place down here in NC that they like.

  • Do you give said gifts at the shower, or after?

  • I've never received or expected a gift as being a shower host before, just thanks and to know they appreciated it.

For my bridal shower I got all the bridesmaids that were hostesses a necklace with a charm on it with their first initial. My MOH is helping my mom and MIL with the baby shower, so I can't repeat it...I don't know what I'll do but I'll figure out something! Maybe I'll get some good ideas from this thread...

  • My SIL is probably throwing my shower with help from my mom and MIL. I will be getting my sister in law a certificate for a day at the spa. She loves that stuff. I might try to get my mom and MIL a piece of jewelry...maybe something related to baby or being a grandparent.

  • My mom and sister hosted my shower, and I got them gift certificates for massages as a thank you.  They really liked it.
  • My mom is hosting mine and she is out of state. She has mentioned not being able to attend any appts or ultrasounds so I was thinking of surprising her with an ultrasound appt at an elective place local to her where the shower would be. It would be her thank you for hosting/ first time grandma present.
  • my friend said she was going to have one for me and i am thinking of getting her a gift card to one of her favorite stores but im not sure if that is good enough

I took mine out to dinner to their favorite restaurant and paid.
  • My SIL is hosting, and I plan to get her a gift as a thank you. She also hosted my bridal shower, and I did the same then. I really like the idea from PP of a gift certificate for a massage.

  • My two SILs and my mom hosted mine. I got the SILs jewelry according to their tastes, and a big flower arrangement forymy mom.

  • Ive hosted/co-hosted a couple baby showers but did not receive a gift. A friend gave her hosts a small "shower" themed basket with shower gel, loofah etc. I will probably do something for sis bc she is doing it almost single-handedly. She started planning my shower in pinterest when I was still in the first tri lol.
Ooh I love that idea for a shower themed gift basket! Very cute. I think I'm going to steal that one.

  • I just sent thank you notes to everyone, I've never thought of a gift. I will do gifts this time.
  • For my bridal shower, I just wrote nice thank you notes. Several friends threw it together and I couldn't have gotten them all nice gifts. The same women are doing the baby shower, so it puts me in the same situation if I don't plan to spend a ton thanking them.

I'm planning on giving bottles of scotch to two of the hosts and something else to the other one. Might be a little overboard but they're worth it.

For 3 coworkers who hosted my work shower, I got them each an orchid plant from SAMs club that was really big and looked nice, but was only $10-12ish each (can't remember).  For 2 close friends who threw a really nice, over-the-top shower, I got them nice lotions and bath stuff and candles from Target and put in a gift bag.  I think that gift was more like $25-$30 each.  I gave the friends their gift directly after the shower and sent a thank you later (also thanking them for their shower gifts.)  For the others, I brought them the flowers to work maybe a week later also with the thank you for hosting and their gifts.

  • I co-hosted my cousin's baby shower a couple years ago and she got me a ticket to an MLB game in Seattle (her and I used to go to games all the time together). I totally wasn't expecting anything and it was a great surprise!
