Crib training fail.....need help please!

I am going back to work in 2.5 weeks, and really trying to get my 9 week old crib trained. I read lots of tips, and they all worked well. We started with naps in her room in her rock n play first so she would get comfortable being in her room, and that worked great. Then, she took 1 nap a day in her crib for a week solid, and those went great, she napped for about 5 hours each time! Now, all of the sudden, when I lay her down in her crib to sleep using the same technique I always have, she thinks it's play time and kicks her legs, gets excited, and will not sleep! I have tried to soothe her with a pacifier and chest rubs, but that doesnt work, once the pacifier falls out the kicking and excitement start again. I am getting more and more frustrated each day, and I don't know what to do.

Any tips are greatly appreciated!

  • My favorite book is The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems. I never did any transitional things when switching my kids to their cribs-just threw them in there cold turkey and neither had any problems. It took 3-4 days for DS to learn how to put himself to sleep using the sleep whisperer method.

  • With both of my kids I did the reverse. Crib at bedtime, nap where they may/like to.

My reasoning was they knew by that point bedtime was bedtime and had the routine down. Bottle, pjs, rock, in the crib. They'd also fall asleep right after the MOTN wakeup so they'd go back in the crib asleep and not know the difference.

Naptime was so unpredictable with both my kids that tossing them in the crib that young was impossible.

I also was not opposed to putting them in the crib asleep. I know it's a big internet no no but whatever. They were less bothered by waking up later in the crib than going in it awake.

  • My LO is 11 weeks and she tends to kick her feet, wave her arms, and smile when I first put her down in her crib (assuming I catch it right and she's not so overtired that she's crying).  It's like she's trying to pretend she's not sleepy.  I usually sit in the glider in her room and wait for her to fall asleep (if I stay where she can see me she just stares at me and doesn't fall asleep).  She'll make little complaining sounds (not crying, just fussing) and I'll talk to her if she gets too vocal.  Despite all the kicking when I first put her down, she usually falls asleep within 10-15 minutes.  I sometimes think the kicking is just getting out a last burst of energy to make herself tired.  Maybe try being close by but out of sight and waiting it out?
