So, my mom/mother-in-law are trying to pin down a date.
Because my mother-in-law has a vacation planned spanning two weekends, and will have to likely work the weekend before and after, there is a chunk of 4 weeks where she can't do it or attend. I want her there, so those weekends are out.
They're tossing around July 19th or August 23rd and asking my preference I feel like 27+ weeks (July) is early. I feel like 32+ weeks (August) is a little late, especially since my mother and grandmother both went early with their children (I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything, but don't they tend to ask you that as sometimes things like this can be genetic?), and I'd want some time to finish things up and write thank yous before the baby.
I'm over thinking it all, huh? August is fine, huh?
Re: Baby Shower Date
I will be 32+ weeks as well on the 23rd of august and that's when I am planning to have my shower I think it should be fine we have a lot of birthdays in our family from July to September and that was the only weekend that would be free with out me feeling like I was taking away from any ones special day its 3 days before my birthday but I don't mind.
I think either of those would be fine. I don't think 32 weeks is too late!
ETA: to answer your question, I think 32 weeks is plenty early enough and like PP siad, it will give you time to write thank you notes before baby is here.
I can't decide. I feel like 27 weeks will be so early that my judgy family will be mean about it, but I don't know about 32 weeks.

Baby Girl Zooey due October 2014
My reasons:
1.I live in Phoenix and I don't want to pass out from heat exhaustion by having this shower in July or August (June is a little more bearable and there are very rare chances of monsoon storms.)
2. I don't want to be huge and miserable. My sisters both had theirs a month away from their due date and the poor things were uncomfortable and could hardly fit into anything, including their shoes.
3. I am a teacher and as soon as school starts (1st week of August) I don't have time to focus on anything except work. I also have summers off, so having a shower at the beginning of summer allows plenty of time to clean, organize, return any gifts and buy the items that baby still needs.
Have the shower when you want it. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks.
Oh and regarding premature babies running in the family, I was born two months early, my brother's two children were born one month and two months early, my sister's son was born at 26 1/2 weeks. I was terrified of my daughter being born early. She was born the day after my due date. Try not to stress about that too much. Just because it has happened in your family doesn't mean it will happen to you.

My mom and SIL set my date last week. I'm due Oct. 4th and having my shower July 26th. I don't think August is late at all. I had to do this date because it's the only time SIL will be in town and she wants to help throw the shower.
**TTC since 10/2009** **BFP 4/15/12- Dx Molar Pregnancy- Surgery 5/15/12 & 5/22/12** **BFP 1/23/14- 1st Beta (1/24/14) 171 2nd Beta (1/28/14) 860**
So I don't think 32 weeks is too late at all.
And I know it's hard not to wonder if you'll go early cause others in your family did, but you never know! Yours could be late!
I'm due Oct. 21 and we decided on July 26 since some out of town family will be able to attend then.
On another note, my sister-in-law just gave birth seven weeks early (just one week after her baby shower). So I think I would opt for an early shower just in case. It's ultimately whatever you feel comfortable with and no matter what you won't please everyone.
