Generic formula?

Long story short...I tried very hard to bf but it didn't go well and my supply ran out. I didn't want to do formula so soon (started at 3weeks). I have been using Similac Advanced because that is what the were supplementing with at the hospital and lo is doing good with it. I have noticed at bru and cvs that they have generic versions of formula that are much cheaper...like almost $10 a can! It makes me think it must be inferior in some way but it looks almost exactly the same. I don't want to compromise on lo's health but if it is the same I could really use the savings! What do you know about theses formulas??? I am most interested in using the cvs brand.

  • They all meet the same standards, you are paying for the brand name. Comes down to what LO prefers

A family member who works for Abbott Nutrition, the makers of Similac told me Costco's Kirkland brand was made by them. He said it's just a 'formula' (no pun intended) from a few years back. This is what I plan to use whenever the time comes.

  • My pedi said she personally would use generic bc it's pretty much the exact same, so with this LO we are going with generic.

  • This is good to hear!
So...fyi - CVS has the generic Similac on sale right now. The can that is about $25 dollars (Similac) is about $15 (generic) on sale right now.
  • I'm glad you asked this as I had the same question! Does anyone know if it's okay to alternate between brands? I have coupons for similac, enfamil & parents choice. I was wondering if it's okay to switch as long as your giving the same type (ex. Gentle ease, etc).
  • My pedi said it's basically all the same.

  • I used generic organic with my last and it was totally fine. Save yourself some cash! Formula is extremely regulated and generic and name brand are the same.

This. I also have a friend that works for one of their labs and gave us the same advice.
