I got a ton of stuff at my shower, I'm pretty sure from babies r us and buy buy baby, that was not on my registry and without gift receipts. Does anyone have any experience returning to these stores? Ideally id love store credit, but again, not on my registry and no receipts. I've read their policies on the websites but they really aren't very clear. Any actual experience??

Here is their policy: Gift Returns
Return an in-store purchase
returns without receipt or returns over 90 days
Items in new condition* returned with original packaging without an original receipt or packing invoice, or purchased over 90 days ago, will receive a store merchandise credit for the current selling price of the item.
You didn't mention Target, but that could be another avenue for returns.
We had tried returning it to walmart initially (that's where I thought it was purchased) but the barcode didn't match apparently. They were nice about it too, just couldn't return it there.

I've taken several things back to BRU and received store credit. I was told that it didn't matter whether it was on my registry of not they woud still let me return it. However, I didn't receive full price (only 80%) back even though the current price at the time of the return was full price.
I had gift receipts at Target but they couldn't find all of the items on the gift receipt. I also thought it was strange that they couldn't get a full listing of the items on the receipt. They still let me return the other items not on the receipt but I had to show my driver's license. They didn't mention the $70 limit. I got store credit for 90% of the full price of the item.
I returned items to Walmart and they let you return up to $50 worth per day, 3 times in six months without a receipt and you have to show your driver's license. I got 100% of the full price item in store credit. They said if the return is under $10 then it doesn't count towards the 3 times in 6 months policy.
First I sorted where everything was from - which was really fun (sarcasm)
Target took everything back with no problems if it had 1) a gift receipt or 2) was on the registry. If it wasn't on either of these, then they do the stupid "gimme your license and you can return it up to $70". So I took all the Target stuff that wasn't on my registry and added it all online. Then went in the store and printed out my purchased log. They then took everything back no problem and gave one GC for everything.
Kohls gave me back merchandise credit for everything I had a GC for. The other Kohls items (which were really random Carter's items they ended up taking back) they also gave me merchandise credit for but at the lowest price in the last year or so. That one I did have to give my license and they gave me two GCs (one for receipts, one without - they couldn't combine they said).
BBB I did the same thing as Target and added the non-registry stuff to my registry real quick before going. When I got there I didn't have to print out my purchase list (like Target), you just go to the counter and they will be able to pull up your registry there. They'll give you merchandise credit all on one GC, with or without receipt.
BRU I had receipts for everything so no problems there.
Random note about Carter's clothes... you can return most of them to Kohl's if you're not sure where they came from, however if they have a black hanger, those are from Costco/Sam's, not Carter's stores.
