April 2014 Moms

C-section mamas beware! (TMI)

I'm 3 weeks PP and still having post-surgery bowel issues. After a truly horrifying hour on the toilet yesterday, I urge you all to keep up with the Colace, keep drinking like a gallon of water a day and get serious about fiber. I feel like my doctor/nurses did not prepare me for how bad this could be or how long it might go on. Thought I was in the clear, but...no. Laxatives, ladies.

  • Narcotics and very little movement can really mess you up!

  • Yes!!! I had a horrific bathroom experience as well. Nightmare!
  • I hear you! I totally shat a brick a few days ago. It was the most awful pain! I'm back on the colace...

  • Totally.  The first post surgery poop was worse than anything, maybe even the contractions, in terms of, when is this going to be over and when will I have relief?  Part of it was mental, I am sure.

I am doing a combo of Colace, MOM, Senokot, tons of water, all the prune juice, and all the fruit.  I ate a couple of those Fiber One bars and that was a mistake...gas-o-rama!  I've mostly tapered off my oxycodone at this point, hoping that helps.

    Good luck ladies.
  • Last time, after my first bowel (at 2 weeks PP) I didn't have issues. This time? Not so much. I'm downing water and prune juice and using colace. The Senna laxative the hospital recommended is such a joke. I'm 3.5 weeks PP.

  • Sorry about all the uncooperative poop, ladies!
  • This is why I do everything I can to avoid narcotics. I was able to not take any at all for this recovery and the difference has been night and day.

Yep, same here. Only took Motrin as of day 2 when I had the IV removed. And refused the colace as of day 3 bc it was giving me the runs.
  • SAme goes for vag birth mamas. I've had a couple of white knuckle moments this week and I'm 4w pp.

    Now we are complete.

  • I didn't take any pain meds to help with my C-section recovery, and I'm having soft BMs every day. Straight apple juice keeps things moving for me.
