What did you eat before your test? I have mine tomorrow morning. I know I can't have coffee, but, was wondering what kind of foods are generally safe and won't significantly impact test results.
I had no sugar in my coffee and Cheerios the morning before my 1 hour and told my OB and she said it didn't matter. I failed it and was required to do an overnight fasting with no food or drink besides water for the 3 hour test.
I passed the 3 hour.
I don't think what you eat prior to the one hour, unless its hugely sugar and carb based will impact your levels quite as much as the drink, but maybe I'm wrong.
I had my test at 4pm, so I ate a normal breakfast, normal lunch, and then I was hungry on the way to the appointment, so I had a snack size bag of potato chips and a water as I drove.
Passed the one hour test, no problem I also felt GREAT after drinking the stuff, so.... :-/ Maybe I'm just a sugar metabolizing genius, haha!
5 years TTC, no luck with IUI's, failed IVF June 2013,
FET Oct 2013 with delayed transfer, intralipids, lovenox & prednisone= first BFP of my life!
My doc actually told me to stay away from carbs the day of my 1-hour. Stupid me, I ate an avocado (my usual bfast), not realizing it had a lot of carbs. Failed the test.
Now, I have a high-carb diet for 3 days prior to my 3-hour, and then a 12-hour fast. Here's hoping.

I have died every day waiting for you. Darling, don't be afraid, I have loved you for a thousand years. And all along I believed I would find you, time has brought your heart to me. I have loved you for a thousand years. I'll love you a thousand more.
I had my 1-hr test at 10am. I was told to eat a high-protein, no sugar or carbs breakfast about 2 or 3 hours before the test. I had 2 scrambled eggs and 2 pieces of turkey bacon. I also drank a lot of water. Stay away from fruit juices (too much sugar) and caffeine (can cause blood sugar to spike). The lab tech that my friend went to said cereal is one of the worst things to eat before having the test done bc of the carbs (and sugar, depending on the type of cereal). I should get my results tomorrow. My fingers are crossed bc I failed my 1-hour with my first daughter. I passed the 3-hour with her, but doing the 3-hr again is not my idea of a good time.
I had eggs, toast, and Mt Dew. I didn't get the memo about no caffeine, but I passed no problem. My sugar levels were actually at the low end of the spectrum.
I ate normally. But typically eat healthy. The morning of I ate two eggs and a slice of cheese for breakfast. Glad I did as the drink made me feel nasty. I passed with a 75!! I agree with eating normally maybe not the sugar like others said.
I don't see why it makes a difference in days leading up to it unless you definitely have diabetes. If your body is still processing sugar correctly, within two hours, your body should have brought your sugar down to the normal range (beneath 120.) I wouldn't eat anything carby or sugary before the test to be safe, but lengthy diets I don't get. I'm married to a type one, my mother is a type two, and apparently I am a gestational (got diagnosed Thursday.)
I wasn't given any special instructions other than to not eat for an hour before. I haven't done it yet, but with DS I tried not to eat anything really sugary until a coworker brought me a frosted sugar cookie that I couldn't resist. I did fine. My doc did say someone was in tears in the office who failed and it turns out this person had a Snickers bar in the parking lot before her test. So that's probably not a good idea.
Thanks everyone!! I feel pretty good now about tomorrow morning and just hope I am not all woozy after the test since I have to go by myself. It's amazing much one forgets from the first pregnancy, lol. I am pretty sure I passed the 1hr test but was at the lab so much (or so it seemed) that I am not sure anymore!!
My midwife said eat protein and stay away from carbs. I had eggs and sausage for breakfast. DH was dying because it was "doctor recommended".
I had to fast with my DDs glucose test so being able to eat before this one was a significant improvement. I don't understand if some are able to eat why not all? I think it definitely helps keep us from feeling super terrible.

I suggest bringing something in your purse to eat afterward, just in case. Like a pack of those crackers with peanut butter or something. That way if you do get woozy after the test but before you can get to actual food, you have something.
