pumping comment at work- annoyed - vent

So, I've mentioned briefly before that it's becoming increasingly difficult for me to pump at work.  Some of that is due to my inability to get away from work and the rest is because I have to always justify why I'm "still" breastfeeding.  You would think working in healthcare people would understand the benefits of BF and not give me grief about it but they do.  They say shit like "Are you going to BF for forever? When are you going to stop?  Are your still doing that?"

Anyway, I had finished pumping yesterday and had my bag with me as I headed to the nurses station.  Another provider (who is a pregnant female mind you) asked "Did you just moo moo?"  I said, "excuse me." and she said it again.  I repeated "Excuse me"  and I think that time she got the hint and then said..."you know, did you go pump."  I said, "If your asking if I just made sure my baby has something to eat, then yes."  So annoying!

Ugh, thanks for letting me vent...I feel better :)

  • Haha take it with a grain of salt. I actually have a picture of a cow on my occupied sign. It makes all the guys in the office uncomfortable. I think people are uncomfortable with the idea so they joke about it. They don't know what else to do.

I know I should but, someone else referring to me as a dairy cow just really got to me.

It's one of those things were I can say it about myself but you can't say it about me.

  • Wow, what an idiotic comment!
  • I work with all men....so when I go pump, I get all kinds of comments....I get some Mooo's, I get someone who makes the sound of the pump(very amusing) and another always asks me how my pasteurization went. Its all in fun though. I am grateful that no one has anything negative to say since I am basically gone a full hour over the course of an 8hr day, and I get paid for it....

I would just ignore it. I find if you make fun of it with them...they tend to stop

  • I'm so sorry you have to deal with immature comments like that at work, especially from a pg woman! My office is incredibly BF/pump friendly, and there are many women who are pumping or have pumped. Having a supportive environment has really helped me stick with it, and I wish everyone could have the same support!

  • That's awful. My work has made it very difficult for me to pump - every time I have a place to go, it gets taken away. The latest spot was converted to an office and I went to our director of HR and said "did you put so-and-so in that office?" And he had the balls to say to me "oh. Yeah. I thought that you were still using that room but we needed it". So fucking tell me first, asshole. So I said "and where am I supposed to go now" and he tells me that I can use his office - I can kick him out essentially. Right. Douchebag.

    Sorry. Ranting.

Legally, employers have to supply you with a place to pump thats not a bathroom. That's total bs! I would be so upset.

  • My students wonder where I disappear to. I tell them I've got mommy business to take care of. Now, any time I leave the room, they ask if I'm going to take care of "mommy business". LOL

Depends on how big the company is. I work in an office with 12 people, they are not required to give me anything, but I am thankful that they do :).

OP- I would be upset as well. I'm sure they didn't mean anything by it, but it's still rude.
