Nursing for comfort

Still nursing 12 month old but I want to stop. He takes water in a sippy cup just fine, so weaning him should be ok BUT I'm not sure how he's going to deal when it also helps calm him down. Any other ways to calm him as I'm weaning??

    I'm still nursing DD, but with DS I had a special song I sang and he had a lovey and blanky. I would cuddle him and speak sweetly and sing his song while he held his loveys.
