Avidkeo's birth story! (finally!)

Hey guys - sorry this has taken so long, finally home after a week in hospital!

My story starts last Saturday. Because I was a week overdue my MW wanted a NST. At 10:30am I was hooked up to the monitor and within a few minutes Jessica was showing decelerations in her heart rate. My MW immediately called the main hospital to discuss things with then, and next thing I know I am at home picking up all our gear and drove to the hospital (2 hrs away from home - the one option I wanted to avoid!).

They monitored Jessica for several hours where the decelerations were showing but weren't bad enough to do anything about immediately. They were also intermittent - would happen for 20 minutes but would disappear for over 40, then come back again. I was admitted into hospital and had to have twice daily monitoring for at least an hour each time. I did discuss with one of the OB Drs about moving my induction up a day (had already been booked for Monday evening) but because she wasn't bad enough and it was Easter weekend (short staff etc) they thought it was best to wait.

On Monday night they started the induction - just the gel to start with. My internal showed no changes to my cervix - was not dilated or effaced at all. Tuesday Morning at 8am they checked again (no change) and put a double dose of the gel in. I started to get Prosto pains - regular tightenings that were an effect of the Prostin Gel. Because of the dose I had to have Jessica's heart rate checked hourly. At 11:30am the CTG showed her heart rate baseline had dropped. It had been pretty low up till that point - around 120 Bpm, but dropped to just over 100 Bpm. We decided to see if I had any changes to my cervix at 2:30pm and go from there. I was also to stay on the CTG to ensure her heart rate didn't drop further. I was also prepared for  a c-section, just on case, and was nil by mouth - just before I was about to eat lunch!

At 2:30pm my internal showed no change to my cervix. The OB was a bit on the fence as to what to do but suggested a C-section. Again it was still a bit up in the air, we could have continued with the induction but because there had been no changes we would probably end up with a c-section anyway. After discussion with my family I decided to go with the c-section.

I was immediately taken though to theatre, given a spinal and at 3:29pm on 22nd April, Jessica Marie arrived into the world.

She is absolutely perfect, and is such a happy baby!
