How much tummy time do you do? I'll only lay him in his tummy like once a day (though they do it more at daycare) and only for a couple minutes because he'll start to cry. Is this too little? Does it really matter?
My mom told me to do 5 mins a day (LO is 8wks). She's a day care director, so I figure she knows. I usually split it into two segments because he hates it.
We don't do it a lot (she hates it!) but we do it on our chests or over the shoulder. She is fine with those, will look around and she has great neck strength... But when we put her on her tummy on the floor/couch/bed, she just lays there and gets upset.

Our Angel was born sleeping at 20 weeks due to IC.
We don't do "tummy time" - he is worn constantly and has lots of time on our chests or sitting on our laps watching big brother. He's had a very strong neck from the beginning, and I know he's developing the muscles he needs.
Nathan has all of a sudden gotten much better at holding his head up and enjoys tummy time a lot more. He probably gets about 20 min or so a day. DS1 also loves getting down on the ground with him so I'm sure that helps.
If he's having a day where he's not feeling tummy time we try the boppy. It gets him up higher where he can see more and he'll tolerate it longer.
And also "tummy time" is something that was developed because Americans put their babies down too much: in bouncers, mamaroos, swings, car seats, strollers, RNPs, cribs, etc. We now have TT so babies aren't spending all day down on their backs.
I try two sessions a day and try to make them last 12 minutes if she tolerates it (slowly working our way up).
My question... what do you do if LO falls asleep during tummy time? I've been letting her sleep and I stay next to her on the floor to make sure she's OK until she wakes up. Should I be rolling her back over?
According to our PT: She says 50 mins per day. Tummy time didn't have to be on the floor, it can be counted as chest to chest time as long as the waist to shoulder to neck are being worked. I think ee get plenty being worn and him laying on my chest.

I let him sleep on his tummy and just check on him every few minutes.
I do tummy time most days (I forget sometimes...) but he is worn a LOT, and he also sits in the Bumbo chair throughout the day to work on that core.
DH usually does a few minutes of tummy time with her when he gets home after work, but during the day I wear her or have her on my shoulder a lot- she usually hates being carried any other way, she really likes to look around. I did worry that we weren't doing enough, but I think she gets plenty of exercise in other ways. He probably gets it in more ways than you realize, I'm sure whatever you're doing is great!
She does very little formal tummy time because she haaaaates it. We power through a few min a day, but it's like 10 tops. But she's worn a lot and pushes off my chest to look around, and we hold her sitting up or standing a bunch during the day since she prefers it to begin cradled, so I'm not too worried. She's super strong already, so I'm sure she's getting enough exercise.

@mlynn333 I asked my pedi this same question and she said as long as I'm next to LO watching her, everything is fine. as soon as we lay her down for tummy time she falls asleep but I let her sleep. she's pretty good at holding her head up and does so when we hold her up to our shoulders.
We only do about 5 minutes most days. Like others, my LO hates it and gets mad after about a minute. She also always spits up when we do it. She plays a lot on my chest though and she'll lift her head when she's laying against my knees. Will she learn to roll over if she's not doing tummy time more?
I agree to do as much as your LO tolerates. You can also get a small toy and move it from side to side to track. This can serve as a distraction. Also try switching b/w back and tummy. Maybe read a short story and then go back to the belly. As long as your LO is working on the muscles either on the tummy, being worn. etc and getting the stimulation all is well.
I give him a massage before bath every time and during the massage I flip him over to rub his back and neck muscles. He likes the massage so does not fuss much and we get 3-5 mins like that. I also noticed that if I try tummy time when LO is not that full he is less fussy. I assume when the stomach is full they won't like it getting pressed against. I aim for 5 mins a day max plus I rest him on my shoulder 10-15 mins after every feed.
LO will roll over instantly if we don't have tummy time looking out a window. I put a yoga mat by our glass door. I can get about 30 minutes if something interesting is happening. So far the kitties doing the feed me dance gets head and shoulders up, and knees going.
My LO rolls front-to-back almost immediately now, so we don't really get much in anymore. I try to do other things with her that work her neck and chest muscles.
This exactly.
I hope to create a real siggy but first I need some sleep!
I did very little tummy time with DD and she developed strong neck muscles just from being held. There's debate over whether tummy time matters. So I'm not making an issue of it with DS.

Actually it's probably more attributed to the "Back to Sleep" campaign.
I hate the term "tummy time" as much as I do "play date" or "out of wine". I basically put him on his stomach once a day or so. He really likes it, and I rarely have to pick him up because he's done with it. He loves it! Not as much as he likes laying on the change table though.
We usually do 3-4 minute stretches a couple times a day. A good portions of the day he's also being worn or held. Even though he prefers being held or worn, the tummy time has been good in getting his legs active while he lifts up his head.

I don't mind "tummy time," but I also don't like "out of wine."
