Postpartum pain

I had a second degree tear and an episiotomy. I'm two weeks pp and bleeding seems to be stopping. I am having a lot of pain when I'm in certain positions like crouching down on sitting on the toilet. It is like the muscles all the way around my v hurt terribly in those positions. It doesn't seem like the pain centers around the stitches, almost more towards the front. That maybe TMI, but I was just curious if anyone else is having similar pain. It feels fine unless I am in certain positions.

Re: Postpartum pain

  • 3rd degree here and 4wk pp. I'd say it sounds like you're just plain sore. Your body took a beating and the muscles have to recover just like any other muscle group would after any injury. I feel pretty much the same way. Obviously if you're really concerned call your doc, but especially any position that puts strain on that area it would make sense to me that it's not pleasant.

  • I agree with @sascott520‌ every day is a little better. As for the sitz bath- yikes! What are those docs thinking?!? I tried it and that position was excruciating, and I have a high toilet. If sitting on the toilet hurts to begin with the the sitz bath would suck! I try to take regular baths when possible. I also just noticed when I walk I really tense up that area, i don't know why, my body just does it. Now I'm trying to consciously relax and it helps some of the soreness. So sorry you ladies are dealing with this, too. It majorly sucks.

  • Yes! Mine is killing me and more towards the front as well! I was worried I had a UTI but took the test and it was negative. Walking or standing too long kills me! I am 2 weeks PP on monday and thought I would feel somewhat better now. Wrong. I still have to ice it if I overdo it. I think a bit of it is from the catheter I had as well...

  • I have two second degree tears; one peri-urethral and another multiple one on my perineum. Still hurts like crazy at 12 days pp. I dream of the day I can sit on a chair.

  • I just started sitting on chairs at 4 w pp. and those donut things are a joke, too. I use a boppy to sit on the padded glider where I pump.

  • I wonder if the weird placement of the pain (away from area of injury) is because those muscles are overcompensating. Kind of like how your knee starts to hurt if you injure your ankle...

  • I have this too. It is more around my urethra/clitoris. It's weird because it isn't near my stitches and it didn't even start until around 2 weeks pp. It's like a bruised pressure feeling. Hot water helps.

    This exactly!!!
  • I'm 2 1/2 weeks postpartum with a 3rd degree tear and still need stool softeners. My pain is more towards my bottom but that's more burning. I feel more pressure down there also, especially when I have to go to the bathroom. I will say that whenever I make time for myself to have a sitz bath with Epsom salt I feel so much better. A world of difference. If you can't stand to sit on the toilet like that then I would try some Epsom salt in a tub. Put LO in the bouncer in the bathroom and if you have other kids do it when they're asleep if you have to.

I think this is from the catheter. It sucks, definitely feels bruised/ uti like .

  • This sounds very much like what I've been dealing with too - I never considered that it could be connected to having a catheter.  I just figured it was due to the forceps/the act of pushing itself.  Glad I'm not the only one, although it sucks... my doctor also didn't tell me how many stitches I got, not sure if that's normal or what.

I am so glad to hear I am not the only one! I was considering going to the Dr. on Monday but I didn't want to make the trip and pay the copay if they were just going to look at me and say "yeah, uh, you pushed an 8lb kid out of your hooha, it's going to hurt for awhile".
:)) - I keep thinking my sister is going to tell me something like this every time I bug her with questions (she's an OB-GYN).

  • I am 2 wks pp and wasn't having much pain anymore and then overdid it carrying DD1 who is 19 months around at the mall yesterday. I have lifted her around the house but not really carried her for more than a minute or two - by afternoon I was pretty sore in the pelvic area and still am sore today. Guess they tell you not to lift for a reason!

Take care of you and remember not to overdo it even if you think you are feeling better.
