Headaches lately...

Let me preface this by saying I don't normally get headaches, ever. Pre pregnancy, or during my pregnancy with DS.

Over the last 5 days or so I have had had 3 days where I had a TERRIBLE headache. One day it started later in the day and bothered me that night. The next morning I woke and my head throbbed and felt migrane like. I wanted to close my eyes and just cry bc it hurt. I had to take 3 tylenol every 5 or 6 hours all day to get it to subside a bit, though it still hurt.

Next day I was fine. Speed ahead 4 days to today and it started again around 2pm. I tried to lay down and relax and have a drink, but it got worse so I took tylenol. It slowly subsided over the next hour. 5 hours later and it came back full force.

What's the deal? Should I be concerned? I was diagnosed with pre e with DS, but not until 38 1/2 weeks. I have no swelling or other symptoms. Thoughts?

Re: Headaches lately...

  • Well, definitely check your blood pressure.

I have been having migraines daily for 4 weeks now. They don't respond well to meds. My OB is referring me to a neurologist.

I have never had them before this.

  • Call your dr just to be safe.

That said, there could be lots of causes. I get migraines during pregnancy, especially when the weather changes dramatically. Weather changes are a big migraine trigger, and the weather often changes dramatically in the spring.

Also, allergy flare ups can give you a nasty headache. Your nose may not even feel very runny - mine is more swollen. Add to that rhinitis of pregnancy and that is a lot of sinus pressure.

    Hope you feel better soon!

  • I agree with a few of the PP's, make sure you keep your BP in check. Headaches are often common when your BP is high.

  • I would call your doctor. It is probably nothing but hormones, but you can never be too safe. I get migraines when not pregnant (and I have had a few this pregnancy too) but my doctor wants me to call if I get a headache that cannot be fixed with a little caffeine and Tylenol or one that lasts for more than a day.

  • I can sympathize. I had headaches throughout the first trimester, but then they went away for awhile. I have a had a few the last couple weeks though. I know mine aren't related to caffeine withdrawals (never have caffeine, even outside of pregnancy) or high blood pressure (mine has been consistently low). I'm chalking it up to hormones or low blood sugar (usually in the morning when it's been awhile since I've eaten), but I'm going to ask my OB at my next visit.

  • Thanks guys. I plan on calling the OB on Monday to let her know what's been going on.
