Let's talk poop...

Hi ladies!

So my LO has been having green seedy poops for the last 2 days and has been pooping less than usual. I am only giving her breast milk. It also has a very funky smell. I'm really worried about her. I called the pediatrician and she said it could just be because she was backed up. I really don't think this is the case since it has been 2 whole days of this. Has anyone else experienced this?

    She is 3 weeks old
  • Does she seem to feel fine otherwise? Green poops can be a sign of a dairy intolerance but that would have some other symptoms too- gas, fussiness, maybe blood in her stools. The occasional green poop can be normal.

  • My 3 week old is also having weird smelling green diarrhea-like poop (was seedy yellow before) but is going way more often. The doc on call isn't concerned either but did say to get baby looked at if it's not better by Monday. Curious to know what others are experiencing too!
  • My LO is having yellowish brown watery stools... Anyone else?

  • Our pedi said that breastfed babies can have a range yellow, orange, green and brown and to just be worried if it's black or has blood in it. She says that the color range can have a lot to do with what mom eats at this point.
  • DD1 had pretty dark green poops for weeks but was otherwise content. My pedi said it has to do with where in her digestive tract most of the absorption is happening. We even had a poopy diaper to change while at the pedi, so they got to see it and confirm it was normal.

  • I agree with everyone else that green poop could be a sign something is up, but unless there are other issues it's probably fine. Is it frothy? It would look like froth on a latte if it was, lots of bubbles!

  • Not green, but definitely funky-smelling.  I thought BF poop wasn't supposed to smell....but his does.  It's not super-nasty like adult poop, but definitely has a funky odor.

  • LO had day of green poops along with more gas than usual and a minor diaper rash...this all started after me having a good bit of dairy. From experience with my older two I have a feeling he is sensitive to dairy just like they were so I'm limiting my dairy intake and watching for a change.

  • I don't think my LO's poop smelled but she had green poop for a few days as well. The doctor said that I had been feeding her longer than necessary (40+ minutes) so I spent less time feeding her resulting in the green poop. I went back to letting her eat as long as she wanted and her poop went back to the normal yellow by the next day. Apparently not getting enough hind milk before. Hope this helps!
  • Ebf poop definitely has it's own unique aroma!
