Newborn Insomnia?!

My lo (3 wks old now) is not sleeping, at all. He eats well (EBF), nods off for maybe 20mins, and wakes up screaming. And the cycle repeats. We also cannot put him down - he'll 'sleep' better in our arms which is causing all sorts of "no baby in the bed issues". I may be sleeping on the floor tonight! He's easily eating more often than every hour all day/night. We've gone through some bouts of cluster feeding but this is something else entirely! It's been going on for 2-3 days now. He gets maybe 6 hours sleep out of 24, and I'm utterly exhausted! He also has green-brown poopy diarrhea but no fever or distended tummy. It's not frothy, maybe a little mucousy but mostly runny. We spoke to the doc on call and she thinks it's fine as long as he's eating. We're giving in another day/night and if it doesn't improve we'll call again tomorrow (and possibly take him to baby emerg). Has anyone else experienced this? 
He's gaining well and having plenty of wet and dirty diapers. It's not a food allergy nor a foremilk/hindmilk issue... help!!

    There is a growth spurt around 3 weeks, sounds like your LO is going through it. Check out kellymom.com, lots of good info on growth spurts there.
