Noises while breast feeding

My son is one week old and over the last day or so has started making quite a bit of noise when he eats. Sometimes it is a squeaky sound usually followed by a gulping or air bubble sound from his belly. Is this normal or is it a sign of a bad latch or poor support or posture? He is giving me lots of wet and dirty diapers, so I know he is getting plenty to eat.

Re: Noises while breast feeding

  • My LO has been a noisy eater since my milk came in. She makes a lot of humming and squeaking noises, and some smacking/gulping noises especially when the flow is a little fast for her. If it is quiet I often can hear little bubble noises in her tummy. I have always just thought it was partially due to kinda fast flow and her enjoying her food :-) congrats on the new baby!

All of this for me, too! If you hear a clicking sound it's usually the baby breaking suction on the latch because the flow may be too fast. My DD did this a lot around 1 month old when I was dealing with over active let down. Congrats on your new baby!
