Naps

How old is your LO and where do they take naps? My daughter will be 11 weeks on Sunday. She takes her morning nap in her rock n play and then she usually naps on me for the afternoon nap (because I'm going back to work soon and I want cuddles!) I've heard two different things: some say to do naps in crib and others say to make naps in a different place than nighttime sleep. Am I creating bad habits by still allowing her to sleep on me?

Re: Naps

  • Mine sleeps on me except for her morning nap which is 3 hours from 9a-12p. She sleeps on our belly in our bed. I get a to. Done. But she pretty much cat naps on me during the day. My MIL in watching her when I go back to work so I've been trying to out her down more.

  • I don't have any scientific evidence, but I think that by letting LO nap on you, you're meeting his/her emotional needs and giving them a sense of security. (At least this is what I tell myself.) I think when LO doesn't need/want to be held for naps it will become obvious. My LO sleeps great at night not being held, so I know he can sleep by himself.

When he is put down for naps, he goes in the pnp. Eventually he'll nap in the crib.

  • Yeah, LO is a crap napper. At 11w, were just getting into a groove with a nap about 1.5hrsaftershe's up for the day, and that's always less than an hour. Other than that, the afternoon is totally unpredictable. Sometimes she'll nap in the car if we go out, sometimes not. Sometimes she'll nap if I wear her, sometimes not. We've tried the same routine we use for her morning nap, sometimes works, sometimes not. You get the drift. ;-)

  • LO will be 13 weeks on Tuesday. She naps in her crib swaddled like she does at night. Sometimes she naps in her bouncer but then the naps are short (less than 40 minutes). When she naps in her crib swaddled she sleeps between one and two hours. My DS only took short naps if I put him in the crib. So he did most if his napping in the moby wrap until about four months....I think at this point whatever works for you and your LO is the right thing to do:).
  • LO is a little over 10 weeks. She sleeps mostly in her swing usually for naps its not swinging but occasionally she will sleep in the Pack n Play that is set up in our room. We are working on getting her to sleep in the Pack n Play more often but she isn't a fan of sleeping on flat surfaces yet.

  • LO is 13 weeks and naps well throughout the day generally, but has days she is less tired and other days she's more zonked. At home, she naps in her RnP, crib or on me. There's no real system we have going on - I kinda feel like she naps when she needs to and I just wing it. I've been getting some pressure from my mom that she MUST nap in her crib now or we will have issues with her sleeping in it at night, but I haven't experienced this. I suspect she may be remembering trying to sleep train an older kid/baby. I say stick with what works for you guys.
