Trouble TTC

Elevated Testosterone

That appears to be my only abnormal result at this time. I still have my HSG on Monday to finish up my testing, and we should have hubby's SA back in a week. My ovarian reserves are "excellent". I still feel bummed that my testosterone is elevated, even though I was anticipating this to be the case. I am not insulin resistant at all, so I'm not sure how to get my levels down. Any ideas, besides losing weight obviously?

Re: Elevated Testosterone

  • Hi,

I have slightly elevated testosterone. I get tested every 6th month and, I noticed that if I exercise before the blood test and take it in the afternoon the levels are almost "normal". If I take the test during very stressful time, the levels skyrocket.
Weight fluctuations (+/-2-10lbs) during last 2 years did not do anything to my testosterone, so not sure if that helps.
My RE is not concerned about this at all and there is a lot of research out there about pregnancy with elevated testosterone. Good luck with your IUI!

I have had elevated testosterone, too.  For me, it is connected with PCOS.  There is something about the other hormones (estrogen, progestone) being low that allows the testosterone to be dominant.  My docs haven't been concerned about the testosterone being an issue in itself, aside from the annoying effects of it.

For me, it is not connected with weight.  In fact, I have occasionally been underweight.  However, my hormones in general do seem to be a bit more even when I am including a good amount of exercise and steer clear of too much refined sugar.  This could be connected with stress levels as well, as malerina mentioned, as even blood sugar levels and regular exercise can help with stress.

  • Sorry for being so late to reply back.  Every other test has been normal except this.  My doc isn't too concerned about it at this time, so I guess I don't need to do anything about it now, but I hope if I am fortunate enough to get a take home baby, I can figure out a way to get my levels down so I can ovulate on my own so I don't have to go on BCP ever again.
