When is bedtime?

What time are you putting lo down for the night these days?

She's 11w tomorrow and had been going down between 930 and 1030, but I've been trying to move it up a bit both due to her cues and the fact that she's going to have to get up earlier once I'm back to work..

Last night we did bath at 830, eat then bed by just after 9. But of course, now she's up twice over night again since she's getting her last meal earlier.

So, when does your baby go to bed, and then when are they eating overnight? Justcurious where most of these little guys are at!

Re: When is bedtime?

  • DD goes down around 11pm. DH doesn't get home til 10pm so it works for us. Also if we put her down at 11 she doesn't fight sleep and sleeps til 8-830 am. It seems to be her magic hour for bedtime. If we put her down earlier it later she's up every hour throughout the night. So we will stick with it for now.

10wks - bedtime is 7-7:30p, and honestly she's probably ready by 6-6:30p but the toddler requires attention at that time and H works nights so I'm outnumbered. She usually dozes off nursing while we eat dinner between 5-6p, and then watches me to wrestle LO1 into jammies as her bedtime entertainment lol.

We get up early though, LO1 is up between 6-6:30a most days, and I wake LO2 at 7a which breaks my heart every time because on days off she sleeps until 8-9a.  It sucks waking kids up :(

ETA - overnight eating is variable. Some nights she's only nursing 1x overnight and again super early (like 4-5a) but falls back asleep, other times she's up every 2-3hrs.

  • My daughter is 11 weeks and she's usually in bed by 8. She takes 2 solid 2-3 hour naps during the day. She usually wakes up at 430/5 so by 7/730 she is getting fussy because she's tired. During the night she wakes up between 12 and 2 and then again around 5 or 6. Then she'll usually go back to sleep until 7/730. When you say your LO sleeps a long stretch, are they fast asleep that whole time? My daughter will make it around 5 hours without eating, but she wakes up probably twice during that time for her pacifier.

Ours is governed by LO but also by the bigs' schedules. We put LO down for the night between 7:30 and 8, then the bigs go to bed between 8-8:30. The early bedtime means LO (who is 9 weeks) has her 7-8 hour sleep stretch between 8-3. So a feeding at 3 AM. But it's worth it to us to have what we call Golden Time, those 2 hours of all 3 kids in bed so DH and I can actually look at each other.

Yep, this is our schedule, too. Except I pass out the second all of the kids are in bed :)

I cannot count the number of times I fell asleep at 7:30p with the kids. Laying down in a dark room, kids aren't yelling/jumping - of course I'm asleep lol.

  • 15w actual/7w adjusted here. We feed at 9 and he wants a big bottle then. Our ped doesn't want him to go more than 5 hours between feeds at night(3 during the day) so we feed at 2 and 6 and then back to every 3 hours.

  • 11w tomorrow.  I try to get him to bed around 8pm, but that usually doesn't happen.  He will seem tired, but then fights it until usually 9:30-10.  We haven't got a good schedule going.  He also still wakes several times throughout the night.

  • 10 weeks today. Starts nursing around 9:15/9:30, goes down for the night between 10:30-11:00. He sleeps until about 6, then goes back down until between 9:30-10. It's not ideal, but it's what makes him happy. And honestly since my DH doesn't get home until 7/7:30 it's nice that he gets to spend a chunk of time with DS in the evening.

    Question for the group:
I go back to work in 3 weeks and need to be up getting ready around 6, so I'll need DS to start nursing a little earlier, like 5:30/5:45. Would you just get him up then and nurse, or would you start trying to put him down earlier at night and hope he wakes up earlier?

We follow LO's lead and usually start bedtime around 7 sometimes he is asleep by 8 other times by 9.  He almost always cluster feeds from 6:00 until he's asleep for the night though.

Forgot to add that he's 10 weeks.

  • 8w. Last feed at 10. Down for the night between 10:30 and 11. Up once in the night -- used to be 3:30/4, but lately 2 or 2:30. Up again around 7. Usually back to sleep until 10am.

I am envious of all you ladies whose LO will do anything more than 5 hours. My LO is 11 weeks and the max I have gotten from him is a 4.5 hour stretch. My LO has always been a light sleeper but it's all in the normal spectrum as far as sleep goes. We give him an oil massage and bath every night between 9.30 and 10 pm. He will then wake up anytime between 1.30 - 3 am. After his feed he will again go down for 2.5 hours max. Then he is either awake or will sleep for another hour at the most. During the day it's sporadic but he has just started to get into a 3 hour routine of eat, play, sleep. He won't do more than an hour of sleep during the day.
  • We have an early guy (almost 14w). I feed him at 6, change his diaper and swaddle at 6:15, and then he gets handed over to DH by 6:30. DH has him asleep in minutes. 6:30 begins bedtime routine for the big while DH gets his baby cuddles. Big is asleep by 7:15, and we have grown up time until we pass out between 9 and ten.

LO did STTN, but now he wakes at 12:30 to feed and 4:30, and he's up for the day at 7:00. Babysitter arrives by 8, and I leave for work.

It works really well for us.

  • We are 8w here. Usually we gave her asleep in the swing around 8, then I feed her between 9 and 10 and she's in bed when we are between 10 and 11. She pretty much always wakes up just once, but it can he anywhere between 1:30 and 5. Lately I've usually been getting to her to sleep until 7 or 8, but sometimes we are up for the day as early as 5:30. Basically, if she wakes up before DH's alarm goes off between 5:30 and 6, I make her go back to sleep :). And she usually will, but once it's light, it's usually not worth trying.

2 months here. DD will fall asleep in her crib most nights around 7:30 or so. I change her and feed her around 9 or 9:30 right before I go to bed. She'll wake up around 2 or 3AM to eat, then sleep till 7ish.

When I go back to work, I'll have to get her up around 6AM, so that'll probably throw a wrench in everything.

  • 8w4d: Bath at 8-8:30. Bottle at 9. Typically takes 4oz if she's not drowsy I'll have her another oz. Swaddle & rock after she's done eating. She typically falls asleep between 9:30-10, but I keep rocking for another 15 mins. She fussed at 2:30 I pop her paci in then she is up to eat around 5:30-6. Cat naps until 9 then eats again. And lately she's been sleeping from 9a-12p and gets mad when I wake her up to feed her again.
  • Around 8 ish

  • @psk‌ - if you start earlier when you're noticing her cues, you'll prob start noticing a pattern. We noticed LO's cues always started around 6:30 , so we start bedtime routine at 6ish, and he's asleep at 6:30. We didn't put a schedule on him - we let him set it, and now that we follow his schedule, bedtime is a snap.

  • Ours depends on the day, but she is usually in bed between 8:30 and 10:00. During the day, she eats consistently every 2.5-3hrs, so however that falls. She will sleep 9ish pm until we wake her (usually no later than 9am) She is almost 12w, and has been doing this for weeks.

  • Sounds like we're still all over the place collectively, good to know I'm not the only one who isn't married to a 7pm lights out! (I feel like another board I post on all their kiddos were down at 730 and sttn at 12w, even though I know that's not the case!)

We tried for an 830 bedtime tonight and I'm currently totally anxious that she's going to wake up any second and never go back down. Trying to enjoy a glass of wine before early bedtime for me, too... just in case ;-)

  • LO just turned 8 wks. She pretty much leads bed time. She will cluster feed, nap and typically fussy in the evening but can be put down around 11 for the night and will begin to stir around 3:45 to nurse and be changed. Thus process last anywhere from 30 min to an hour and then she will easily sleep until 6. When we try to put her to bed earlier than 11 she will not stay asleep.
  • DD is 12weeks 3days and goes to bed around 8 at the same time as DS (25 months).  She begins her last feeding between 7 and 7:30.  She usually gets up once a night sometime between 3 and 4 and then is up for the day between 7 and 8 am.
  • 13 weeks. He eats around 10 and goes to sleep around 10:45. He will sometimes wake up around 4am.
  • edited April 2014
Jacob has a bath or a little wipe down around seven thirty, then 5-6 oz before I put him down to sleep. He wakes up between 2.30 and 3.30 for another 5-6oz. He wakes up for the day around six. This is what usually happens but we do have nights that are completely random.

Edited cos I forgot to add his age. He will be 9w Monday.
  • The only routine we currently have is he will not go down for the 'night' until 11-1AM. Everything else is still a mystery. Each day is a surprise for us...*sigh* hoping for basic routine soon!
