Has anyone tried the EASY method?

My LO is 6 weeks. I know he is going through a growth spurt, but since birth I can count on one hand the number if times LO has slept longer than 3 hours at a time. Also, he will only sleep after nursing and sometimes in the car.
My pediatrician told me about the E.A.S.Y. Method. What are Thursday thoughts if you've tried it? I would like to start a more reliable routine once this growth spurt is over in hopes of both of us getting more sleep.

Re: Has anyone tried the EASY method?

  • I bought the Baby Whisperer book which discusses this method in detail. Ultimately I would like to try it when LO is older, but I'm not sure how realistic it actually is.

  • @stufie‌ do you like that book? In thinking about buying it on my kindle.

  • I find it explains things really well but I did find it a bit dry. I wasn't able to finish it before DS was born.
  • I used this method to get my first two on a schedule. Worked great. I was losing my mind with no schedule and not having a routine so starting around two weeks, I started tracking their patterns for a few days and then adjusted everything to Eat Awake Sleep. Naturally, they wanted to sleep after eating but I found this method much better. I didn't have to do much besides encourage them to stay awake for a while after eating and put them for a nap when it was time. I didn't hold off feedings or anything unrealistic. I haven't done a schedule yet for #3 (3 weeks) but will soon.

  • I feel like we end up more doing eat active eat again then sleep. If I don't feed her before she sleeps she won't sleep very long.

This is what I think we will end up doing. I've never been able to just get him to go to sleep without eating first. Sometimes I think I'm doing it wrong and it will ruin him for sleep later down the road.

  • I try to follow this. Biggest thing for my lo is she fights naps. I like this though because usually after some activity I see her start to get fussy and know it's time for nap. Not to say though that sometimes she eats, naps and then has activity though.
  • What is this method? I am in the same boat with the not sleeping longer than 2-3 hours. My son is 6 weeks also. I'm going crazy. I don't remember my first baby doing this up every 2 hour stuff.
  • I used baby wise and have been working on eat awake sleep. He's doing so much better and last night he slept for four consecutive hours 5 between the last feeding. And this is a kid that eats every hour and a half!

  • When you put them to sleep do you rock them first, or just lay them down? Luke won't just go to sleep, he usually falls asleep eating and then I lay him down.

But I also think I've been missing his sleep cues and he's getting over tired.

  • We did it with DD when she was 6 months, and it was wonderful. We are doing it loosely with LO now, and he does pretty well on it.

  • I'm thinking I need to read up some more. I don't really want to try too much right now since he's going through six week growth spurt, and his first leap.

  • There's a book called the baby whisperer. I don't have it yet, I've just been googling EASY method and ready some blogs.

I plan on trying this on Monday:

It's been a while since I've read it, but @disneyaddict1, the baby whisperer doesn't believe in letting them CIO until after 4-6 months.  She actually doesn't believe in true CIO at all... she suggests a pick up/put down method where you never leave the room and you're able to comfort LO while they're crying.

ETA: Just realized you were referring to the link above.  Definitely agree that it's WAY too early for CIO.

  • Yeah, that was my concern...I re read it to DH earlier, and that's what I said to him, it never said how old their LO was. Maybe I'll just try the eat wake sleep first and go from there...even if sleep is in my arms.

We do eat awake sleep. During growth spurts (mental or physical) there is usually eat awake (sleep fussy) eat pass out. She's on a loose 3 hour schedule (anywhere from 3-4 hours between feeds). She naps for 2-3 hours at a time.
At night she goes to bed (crib) at the 7pm feed (which is anywhere from 6:30-8pm) and then the last couple nights she woke up at 2:30 then again at 6:30. So I'll start my day then.

    She is 6 weeks today.
