Best toys for a 3MO

Hi Ladies! My LO turns 3 months today!! I was just wondering what your recommendations are for toys that he can use now.

I just want to give him something to play with while I get ready in the AM. He looks so bored sometimes, sitting with me in the bathroom. I have a play gym, but on weekdays, it's at my MIL's house, who watched him during the day. He has stuffed animals that he looks at, but he just looks bored most of the time. He isn't really reaching for items yet, so I don't know if this would affect what we would get for him.

Thanks!

Re: Best toys for a 3MO

  • DD is almost 4 months. She loves her play mat, anything colorful or that makes noise. She just started pulling on the toys that hang and is now able to make them play their songs. It's okay for babies to just be sitting/laying. They are learning and taking in their surroundings. I always wonder what DD is looking at when she appears to stare at a plain wall.

  • Just plop him in front of the TV! Just kidding. I'd get another play gym or a reclining seat, one w toys hanging from it. I think the one we have is Fisher Price. DD2 is just over three months and loves her seat. Once you guy can support his head well, the Bumbo is great too.

  • DD's favorite toy? My face. She loves trying to grab at my mouth, glasses, and hair. I used one of her hairbands thingies the other day and dangled it over her and she was trying to grab at it and put it in her mouth. At this age, she likes anything she can try to hold and put in her mouth, although she does like this plastic set of keys because it makes a lot of noise when she swats at it.
  • DS also loves Mortimer the Moose and the Skip Hop hug and hide Owl.
  • We had the moose too. He also really liked the Winkel. I think it encouraged him to try to grab and hold on since it was so exciting.

  • DS loves his play mat and anything he can grab and put in his mouth. I find him pretty easy to entertain now, also I use different textured scarves hung above him, **not so low that he can hurt himself** and he can grab and feel the different things.
  • Thank you everyone!!! He's not really in grabbing things yet (which makes me nervous), so I'm still trying to find something to occupy his attention. Something that lights up and makes music maybe?

  • We have a mobile that has a base to it. One of those might be helpful as he can lay down with it and watch it from below.

Try an OBall. It is easy for them to hold, has a slight (not annoying) rattle, and are brightly colored. It's a great first toy! Added plus for me is it be collapsed and squished into my purse. This is the one I got. https://www.target.com/p/oball-rattle/-/A-13987276#prodSlot=large_1_10&term=OBall

  • My 13 week old daughter loves Sophie the Giraffe.  My mom also got her this wrist rattles which she is also obsessed with since she discovered her hands.  I think they are made by Bright Starts, they match her play mat by the same brand.
  • My LO loves her Fisher Price sit me up seat! She really likes to sit up rather than lay down and she's still a little too small for a bumbo or something like that. It provides more support for her. and This seat has toys that dangle, she loves the little crinkly butterfly!
  • DD has a really inexpensive three key toy Piano that she's obsessed with. The brand is Hap-P-Kid

Don't be nervous. My LO didn't start grabbing much until 3.5 months or so.

A mobile might be great too, our daughter loves her mobile.  I lay her in the crib and turn it on when I am tidying up her room or folding her laundry.
  • My DS loved and still loves the Baby Einstein Sea Dreams Soother (he's 5.5 months now) can attach to crib or stand on floor (if not grabbing)
