Short version: Skylar Jade was born 4/17/14 @ 1:22pm weighing 8lbs 8oz 20 in long via med free vaginal birth after being induced about 6 hours prior.
Long version: I was induced Thursday 4/17/14 @ 40w3d - 4cm 80%. I arrived at the hospital at 5:30am, filled out a bit of paperwork and headed back to L&D around 6:30am. Shift change was at 7am so I was bummed to learn I wouldn't keep my nurse since she was so nice. So around 7am I met my new nurse and her shadow. Shadow was nominated to start my IV which resulted in me passing out because she lost the vein and I happened to look over to see blood pouring out of my hand. After that ordeal my main nurse got the IV in with no problems at all and they started my pitocin around 7:30am. My doctor arrived about an hour later to break my water. I opted for a med free birth which literally surprised everyone who entered my room and my contractions were bearable until around 1pm. I had just been checked and was at 6cm and totally thinned except for the very right side so it was suggested I sit up straight or lay on my right side, both made my contractions worse and I felt myself losing it. I'm assuming that's when I really hit transition because in a matter of minutes my body felt the need to push. Shadow happened to come into the room at that time because baby had jumped off the monitor. When I told her I needed to push she told me that there was no way since they had just checked me and I was only 6cm. At that point my husband spoke up and let her know this is exactly how I acted when I had my son and I was indeed ready so she reluctantly checked me again only to feel my baby girl's head. She yelled for my main nurse who then yelled for the closest doctor. Everything after that was pretty much a blur, I remember my body still trying to push while I was trying to wait for my OB to run from her building, another doctor coming into the room and telling me it was ok to push, pushing twice and baby girl shot into the world like a rocket @ 1:22pm. My OB literally ran in a minute after she was born. She talked me through delivering the placenta and stitched my first degree tear in the same spot I tore with DS. I was able to skin to skin with baby girl for a few minutes before she was taken to the NICU because she was having a bit of trouble breathing since she didn't have time to clear all the fluid from her lungs due to how fast she came. We were so lucky she only had to spend an hour being monitored before she was back with us. Baby weighed 8lbs 8oz and was 20 in long. We had a great hospital stay although things sure have changed a ton in the 2 1/2 years since I had my son. We were discharged on Saturday with baby weighing 7.10 and since being home LO is a great nurser but we are having trouble with her gaining weight. We've already had 3 doctor visits and if she is not back up to birth weight by her 2 week appt. next week I'm so worried they will tell me to supplement. So I'm now feeding every 2 hours around the clock which makes for a very tired momma! Thanks for reading! Sorry for any typos or if this turns out to be one huge lump, I'm on mobile while I'm sure you guessed it - nursing with sore nips!
