Hannalee?

Thoughts? Love it? Hate it? Eh?

It's not a smush name. It is a real Hebrew name and also has a biblical reference.

This is not a reliable source.

I would suggest: Hanna, Annabelle, Emilia, Emmeline.

  • Yep, I'm with everyone else. I prefer Hannah or Hannah Lee.

    It's an awful smush name.
  • Sounds like the place where Puff the Magic Dragon lives
This is exactly what I was thinking...as soon as I read the title of the thread all I could think of is, "in a land called Hannalee!"

I like different names, but not a fan of this one.

That was my thought, now I have the song in my head.

  • Hannah Lee would be perfectly lovely and you could call her both names if you wanted.

  • Samuel's mom was Hannah. Not Hannalee. And sheknows just lists any variations of any name anyone has ever decided to add to it. It's like the wikipedia of name sites. It doesn't even mention that is was derived from the name Hannah.

I've read the entire Bible multiple times. Hannalee is NOT in the Bible.

If you like it, use it, but don't try and justify it based on false information. Just be up front. FTR, this name probably won't go over well on this board.

    Edit: words are hard.

I wasn't trying to justify it at all. I'm not a hardcore name investigator. I saw it on a site and wrote what I saw. That is all. Completely up front.
  • I wasn't even sure if I liked it. That's why I posted to get other opinions. I like Hannah but its a little too common for me. That's why when I saw Hannalee it stuck out a little. I like the Hannale version PP mentioned but I think pronunciation would be a problem spelled the way it is.

    Initial thought too! Haha.

I don't like it, OP. But I do like a lot of names that have the same feel that have been mentioned: Johanna (my DD), Hannah, Annabelle...

  • My thoughts? Not pretty at all and sounds made up. Hannah is a a great name, why change it? If it's too common for you then I'd probably go back to the drawing board.

  • Im not a fan. Personally I don't think historical data is necessary when choosing a name, but it still sounds a little too made up for me. I like Anneliese or Hannah Lee as some others have suggested.

This is what I was going to say.

I'd go with Hannah or Leah or something else entirely.

Thank god it's not just me.

OP: I would suggest Hannelore, but pronunciation would be an issue, just as with Hannele.

That was my first thought when I saw the thread title.
But yeah Samuel's mother was Hannah and I would go with Hannah Lee or Anneliese if that's the sound you're looking for.

  • I know a little girl with this name whose mom was 16 when she was born...I never liked the named but chalked it up to a "16, pregnant & immature" name. I vote NO times a million. Puff the Magic Dragon wants his "land" back.
  • Not a fan.

Off topic, but I swear there are certain names that just scream "teen mom" to me.

I know someone named Annaleigh.  Similar.  I like Hannah Lee separated better.

  • I would just use Hannah Lee.
