Sciatic nerve trouble anyone?

Today I had my first sciatic nerve issue. I think that's what it was, I had the worst sharp pain in my lower back, hip, butt area. I couldn't put any kind of pressure on my left hip not even bending over. I couldnt walk, sit, stand, move, all i could do was cry. What do y'all do to help it?

I'm getting a belly band tomorrow which is suppose to help some and a heating pad helped a little bit not enough it came back a little bit ago. I need suggestions pleeeaase!

Re: Sciatic nerve trouble anyone?

  • I'm not sure if it is sciatic nerve pain but I've been having major lower back pain for a few weeks now.  It's to the point where I am having a hard time walking at times.  Last week at my 16 week checkup I said something to my OB and she referred me to a back center with their staff that specializes in pregnant women.  I started physical therapy this week and already I notice an improvement.

  • I have awful sciatic pain in the super low back area. I've heard massage and chiropractic visits help, although I have done neither.

  • Mine has continued from my last pregnancy..this time I have been seeing a chiropractor and it's heavenly :)
  • Even prior to being pregnant, I have always had issues with sciatica.  Having a bump it is much harder, but you tube sciatic stretches.  These stretches are the ONLY thing that have ever helped me!  If you get in the habit of stretching in the am and pm, you will probably very rarely experience any more problems with it.  Its such a simple fix and provides almost instant relief.  This is the stretch that helps me the most:  https://youtu.be/Ue9N-JMEuZ4.  Good luck!  I hope this helps.
  • I guess the link didn't work, so just search "best sciatic nerve stretch part 2 sukie"
  • Thanks ladies I may need to see a chiropractor. My mom has had sciatica all her life BC of scoliosis and she showed me a couple of stretches. I thinks its just how my little man is sitting down there, he was kicking my spine, not pleasant at all.
  • *raises hands* this has been horrible for me. Heat seems to be the only thing that helps mine.
  • I find that my sciatic nerve pain gets worse when I haven't exercised for a few days. I woke up this morning and it was terrible. I went to a prenatal yoga class and it's gone now..I think the stretching definitely helps, and if it's baby causing the pressure somewhere the activity gets him to move to another position.

  • I've also had trouble with sciatic pain for years and pregnancy is making it worse.  I find that stretches and ice help me the most.  I brought a frozen bag of vegetables to work and placed it in the center of my lower back and did 15 minutes of ice and 15 minutes without.  By noon the pinch is gone.  It just depends on whether your pain is caused by inflammation or just the position of your baby.  Good luck!
  • I've been having nerve pain but I don't think it is sciatic (it is down my front, outer thigh) but it hurts really bad. I hope you all get some much needed relief.

The front pain could still be sciatic, I've had it both ways.  My chiropractor said to ice my lower back and heat the front of my hip where the pain was radiating from!

    Good to know. Thank you!

Dr. Google also mentions something called Meralgia Paresthetica. I have an appointment on Weds and I will be bringing it up
