WWYD- WCM

Sorry to be a bit of a PW lately, but I'm interested to hear your ladies thoughts on this subject.

Recently, my supply has taken a major dip. I'm doing everything I can to get it up, but its not working. I'm only pumping about half of what Emmett eats during the day. I called the pedi and she said that I could supplement 1/2 and 1/2 with WCM, and then fully over to WCM after a few days if I wanted to.

Emmett turned 11 months on the 17th and I originally wasn't planning on introducing milk until a year. I'm torn between listening to the pedi and using WCM, or going to formula. I keep reading about how WCM has so many proteins that it can be really hard on their kidneys, cause allergies, etc.

So anyways, my question is, WWYD? Would you supplement with WCM, or formula?

Re: WWYD- WCM

  • @tricia560, he's eating a wide variety of foods at home. He eats lots of table foods, and also gets several fruit and veggie purees during the day.

I'm more worried about the milk being too hard on his body than him not getting enough nutrients.

  • Our pedi said we could start transitioning to WCM at 11 months, so I've been offering it with dinner.  She's been on formula for a long time though, so our situation is different.  I think as long as your LO is eating a lot of other things too, it would be ok to switch now if you want.

  • I started supplementing with WCM at 10 months and plan to fully transition her in the next week. I tried formula before, and she wouldn't drink it...but she took the WCM no problem. She's a really good eater though. She eats a ton from all food groups, and gets lots of iron from her cereal and meat. I was totally comfortable with it.

  • I started supplementing with WCM at 10.5 months because I was tired of wrestling DS and forcing him to nurse when he would rather play. He nurses 3x a day, gets 4oz of frozen BM, and 3-5oz of WCM per day.
