which bottle sterilizer?

I received two different bottle sterilizers as shower gifts. I assume I don't need both. Which one should I keep and which should I return? I received the Philips AVENT BPA Free 3-in-1 Electric Steam Sterilizer and the Philips AVENT BPA Free Microwave Steam Sterilizer.

Personally, unless you really want a sterilizer I would return both and use the money to buy something else. I'm pretty sure you don't have to sterilize bottles after each use. My LO doesn't take a bottle that often, but when she does I just put them in the dishwasher or hand wash in hot soapy water. But after looking at both of them I would probably go with the microwave one. Whichever one you get, make sure it works with other bottles in case you LO doesn't care for Avent.

  • The medela steam bags are so nice for sterilizing and take up basically no space and are pretty cheap.

  • Neither.  You only need to sterilize bottles before the first use.  And boiling them in a pot of water will do the trick.

  • The kids I nannied for had the electric one. I hated it with a passion! You have to use distiller water and the bottles and parts are NEVER dry after it's done, which means you have to let them air dry on the counter (we put a towel over them while they dried). I kind if felt like that defeated the purpose. Takes up too much counter space, plus the space of all the stuff drying. Do yourself a favor and return both for something you need.

  • Another vote for returning them both! We got one. Used it one time. Now the big honking thing is in a closet. Boiled all the rest of the new bottles and used our dishwasher.
  • Use a big pot of boiling water before first use, and return them both!!

Ditto! Agree that would boil on stove for first use & tgen use the steam bag if items left uncleaned for a while, or LOs bottle drops at a restaurant or some icky place, or if LO gets sick (we're doing that with thand wash parts of sippy cups now. Everything else goes in dish washer).
