Not sure if this has been talked about or not but....I just started my registry and I'm looking for a good quality video baby monitor , any suggestions would be helpful, FTM problems
I went with the Infant Optics on Amazon. $99 and it works well! Now that I will have two under two, I wish I had gone with the one that others suggested- Motorola. This allows for multiple cameras and toggles between them automatically.
If you are not planning on having another kiddo by the time you are done with a monitor, I highly recommend saving on this baby cost and getting Infant Optics.
I registered for the Angelcare movement, video and sound. I know it is waaaaaay overprotective of me to want video and movement, but several people have recommended it to me at this point. Plus, the sound part lets you talk back to the baby. Sometimes all they need is to hear your voice and they will settle back down.

We have a Motorola video monitor. I really like that it includes video since I'm paranoid. For less paranoid parents, I've heard they appreciate the video when their baby is a little older to be able to tell if they're sleeping or playing quietly.
I just got this one: Infant Optics DXR-8 Pan/Tilt/Zoom 3.5" Video Baby Monitor With Interchangeable Optical Lens on Amazon for $220.
I needed a new one now for DS so we could transition him back to his own room/bed. I really like it a lot...though it is on the pricey end. The only downside I've found is the volume. I think the microphone is designed to hone in on actual sounds versus white noise, but sometimes I can hardly hear DS, especially with the fans going in my bedroom (I have to sleep with fan noise).

I just wanted to comment on this part - we still use our monitor for DD who is 2.5 (it's a Lorax and was marketed as home security, but we love it. Got it at Costco). Anyway, whenever we try to talk to her over the monitor it scares the ever loving shit out of her! You can see her on the monitor instantly sit up and look around and then try to bury herself in the covers because she is afraid. We don't do it anymore, because of that. But it kind of cracks me up because I thought it would be a helpful feature.
We got this one but didn't start using it until DS was moved to a twin bed with a rail at 18 months...idk why we waited so long. We will def be getting another for DD. They are amazing and the quality is perfect. I can pull it up on my phone or my computer really quickly..or leave it up all the time if I want to always see the image. Big fan! (audio is usable on it too..but we have a cheapo monitor for audio already so we didn't set that part up)

We have a Motorola video monitor. No complaints but the one time DH talked to DS over it he flipped out. It was months ago and he still brings up "Daddy made the scary noise" all the time. For some reason it projected sound in a way that made it sound like DH was in his closet and his voice sounded like something from a horror movie!
Those of you with the Motorola...do you have any battery issues? My sister (she has a 7 month old) had a Summer Infant one and something on it broke. She took it back and saw the Motorola they had originally wanted was on sale, so she traded in and got it. She said she had trouble getting the battery to last through the night! She was really disappointed and went back to the Summer Infant.

Our receiver stays plugged in all night next to the bed.
It's not that easy. You password protect your camera just like you would for a wifi connection in your home. You could also take the next step and set it up on it's own server if you wanted, which would make it harder..but if you just use some decent safety precautions, you should be great.
We registered for the Angelcare monitor. My ILs picked up the Angelcare video monitor b/c my BIL & SIL registered for a video one and they thought we should have one too lol If they want to spend the extra cash, then by all means!
We like the soby baby call with J, its audio only. Debating using that one again, or also eyeing an infant optix or summer infant video one on amazon. Both have ability for dual camera if we got a video one I'd put a camera on Js room. Right now we don't use any monitor for him
