Is Kennedy really that bad?

DH didn't initially like Kennedy. He preferred Kenna. I love Kenna but think it's more of a nickname. He then suggested we do Kennedy Rose, and call her Kenna. But I've noticed people either like this name or hate it. Thoughts?

  • It's a masculine sounding surname.
  • Not a fan. My friend has a little girl named Kennedy and the name is like nails on a chalkboard to me personally.

  • Not a fan. I know a few Kenna's who pull off the name beautifully as adults.

That was my concern with Kenna, that as an adult it would be strange.

Kenna is a stand alone name. It works just fine.
  • I'm the odd one out I guess - I happen to love it. I really love it for a little girl but my hubby nixed it.

  • Not a fan.... not a fan of Kenna, either.
  • I really don't like it...or Kenna.  That said, I would much rather see Kennedy or Kenna over Kenslee, Kinzlee, Kennleigh, Kaydaynce, etc.  While Kennedy is a masculine sounding surname, it's at least spelled correctly.

As for president names, I'm more for Lincoln (boy) and Reagan (girl).

  • I think Kendra is an awesome name, Kennedy is not my style at all.

    Throwing in my two-cents:

Kennedy Rose really sounds like you are paying tribute to Rose Kennedy, the Kennedy family matriarch. To me, this makes it seem even more like you are a HUGE Kennedy/JFK fan.

ETA: I'm not saying that's a good or a bad thing! Just mentioning it as something to be aware of.
  • Yes, it is.

  • A lot of people use it so some people must like it. I don't get the whole Kennedy, kenley, kensley, Kenzie trend personally.

  • I much prefer Kenna or Kendra over Kennedy.

  • I like Kennedy, but it is was my mom's maiden name, so I'm biased. It's been used a few times in our family- once as a fn for a male and twice as a mn for girls.

  • I'm not a fan of random surnames as FNs in general. There is a boy Kennedy in DS1's class and it bothers me a lot less than when I see it used on girls. (I have a friend who gave both her daughters random Irish surnames as FNs.)

  • JFK. Trendy. Non-family surname.

None of those are naming choices I'd make, but it's your kid.

  • Another vote for Kendra.

I'm not a fan of Kennedy, but I will say, it's better than a fb friend spells it for her DD's name - Kenadie. Yuck.

  • Personally, other than it being JFK's last name, I don't see Kennedy as a masculine name.  One of my best friend's younger sister (18 yo) is a Kennedy and it fits her well.
  • Not of a fan of Kennedy or Kenna, but Kenna is definitely better. Kennedy is a last name and I think it feels masculine. The only girls named Kennedy I know are from younger cutesy mothers. It's a very trendy name.
