I don't know how it works in the US, but in my province in Canada, amongst all the tests that are done with newborns is a urine screening when the baby is 21 days old. The test is to look for rare genetic diseases. We did it a few weeks ago and I sent the sample by mail to the hospital which analyses the results. Well I got a phone call today because we have to do the test again. The lady on the phone couldn't tell me if it's because there was a technical problem with the sample or if something is wrong with my baby, I checked online and it's probably the former reason and not the latter, since they would send us to the hospital for more tests if it was the case. But I'm still suuuuper worried. What if my baby DOES have a health problem and I'm delaying the results because I didn't do the test correctly in the first place? Now I have to wait for the new test kit and we will get the new results in only 3-4 weeks. This sucks!
I'm sorry there isn't any real point to this post. I'm just super worried for my poor baby. DH keeps trying to tell me it's noting, but I hate waiting for results so bad!!
Re: Worried about Newborn Urine Screening
(Or Alberta, Manitoba, Quebec - all places I have friends with small kids)
*disclaimer: I certainly don't ask about ALL testing they could endure
Maybe this is unique to your province? Although you mention 'genetic' diseases ...
Did you have a MFM specialist during pregnancy due to any condition you or your H have (or could pass on)? Perhaps this is follow up?
Is there a typical condition that exists in your area that is thought to be as a result of employment or living conditions in your area?
Sorry, I have no help to offer, just find this curious.
