diaper pail recs?

Hi all!  Just curious if anyone has diaper pail recommendations. We probably don't need one to hold a ton of diapers since we can take them out to the garage pretty easily, but I don't want to have to do that every time I change a diaper. Also, we REALLY need one that will stay closed if the dog knocks it over. He's never knocked over our kitchen trash but dogs have that gross habit of being especially interested in extra smelly things... (ewww).

We used a regular metal step can from target, used regular trash bags and contained odors for $20.

We also used a regular step can and grocery bags. We usually empty it once a day since breastmilk bowel movement diapers don't smell that bad. Once LO got on formula, we still put the pee diapers in the can but throw the bm diapers in the trash can outside.

After LO got mobile and started showing interest in the step can, we removed it and just throw diapers into the kitchen trash can. BM diapers still go straight into outside trash can.

We have the ubbi and I love it.  It is SS so it doesn't absorb the smells.  It locks so animals can't get in even if they knock it over.  And no special bags required.

  • Stainless steel can for $20 will work fine.

  • We have the Arm & Hammer one. It's fantastic at killing smells. Just got another one that uses regular garbage bags, and the difference in smell is noticeable. Both would protect against getting knocked over.

  • We have the Arm & Hammer one too and it's great at holding in the smell. DD is 19 months and we still like it, we will get a second one for baby #2. We also have three dogs and they have never gotten into it.

  • Regular can with a flip up lid and Glad Febreeze trash bags. Can't smell a thing.

  • Thanks for the advice everyone! I'll look into these options :)
  • We have Diaper Champ. It uses regular trash bags and keeps the smell to a minimum. Its really sturdy and our dog has never knock it over or got into it (and she does everything else including the recycle bin).

  • We have a diaper genie and I swore by it for a long time.  Three years in we don't use it.  The poops just get grosser and the plastic started to absorb the smell.  We now put the poopy diapers in a bag (like the ones you use to pick up dog poop) and they go straight to the garage.  I have one of those orange home depot buckets right outside the door and that's where they go until we take them to the trash.  Pee diapers just go in a trash can.
