  • STM no shower but I had two beautiful showers with my first and I think my close girlfriends will want to do a casual "pre baby Brunch" or something. We usually do that for each other.

  • Haha just noticed that! STM and no bridal/baby shower for us ;)
  • First time mom. I clicked no shower, but who knows? I'm only 20 weeks, and two friends have mentioned it but only casually. I guess time will tell. :)
  • FTM and I'll have one at work and one with my church friends.

  • We are having 2 showers. One fire my family and one for the in laws. They live 8 hours away so each of our patents ate throwing a shower for our respective families.

  • STM, no shower. I had two with my first. Actually, I'm hoping there's no shower. A friend of mine keeps hinting at it but I've declined several times. Really, really hoping that she doesn't plan a surprise shower.

  • As of right now, my mom really wants to throw a shower for me, but I'd have to fly to get there. Fortunately, it would include my ILs and "old" friends (pretty much all the girls I grew up with). I am hoping to find a good price on flights for sometime this summer, anytime this summer. No one here has asked about a shower but my guess is that it's relatively likely I'll get a small shower with friends from church. So for now I put FTM, one shower because I don't really want to assume I'll get a second shower (but it's kind of traditional, I think the ladies at church like to find excuses to have a low key ladies night and get their husbands to watch the kids, the gifts are never extravagant, it's more about food and hanging out).

  • I'm a first time mom and haven't been to many showers. Are we supposed to plan our own and invite people or wait til someone offers? So far I've had no offers and I'm half way. How far along do you normally have one? Thx guys

Same. If someone asks to throw me one, I will also politely decline. But I don't think anyone is planning on it.

  • FTM - My mom wants to throw one in my hometown for family. (These are same family ladies that threw a holy HISSY because I didn't have a bridal shower, so my mom thought for the love of God we'd better have a baby shower!)

One of my BFF offered to throw me one in the city I am living now, for friends. I told her she doesn't have to, but she is insisting, so I will accept.

  • SS Here! FTM, and we are having a baby party. I've always found showers uncomfortable, so we are having just a normal party hosted by a friend. No silly games, males welcome, I don't expect gifts. Just fun times!

  • FTM probably having 3 because of family issues... 1 with DH family in the city we will be living in, 1 with my mother's side she will be showing, 1 with father's side thrown by grandmother & stepmother.

I have a huge family, and as long as they're happy to do it.. guess I'm along for the ride. Plus we've lived out of the state the last 4 months so family will just be excited to visit with me & DH and rub the baby bump! lol

FTM and one shower. It is being hosted by my sister, sister-in-law and best friend.  I was offered a second but declined it because it just wasn't going to work for me on the date they wanted to have the shower.

    1) No, you are not supposed to host your own shower. A shower is a gift giving event, and hosting your own shower is like walking around with a sign saying "buy me presents, buy me presents, buy me presents!".

    2) You NEVER ask or hint to someone, anyone, that they should host a shower for you!

    3) If no one offers to host (or throws one) a shower for you, then you do not get one.

    4) When is really up to the host. Traditionally they are some time in the early third trimester, but sometimes are held late in the second trimester for reasons like travel or just plain timing issues.

  • FTM my BFFs are throwing me one, one at my work and my husband's coworkers are giving him one before the school year is over! Excited to have one so soon.
  • FTM - no shower... my aunts want to throw me one, but i just moved to Indiana from IL, and they're in my hometown of MI. i dont know how to schedule around that, and if i should anyway because i don't want it to seem like im just going there to load the car up with gifts and drive home. so not having one.

    ALL WELCOME :)
  • FTM- My best friend will be hosting with help from family.
  • FTM- My sister is throwing two showers for me (she's enthusiastic about party planning and babies). One will be pretty big and in my hometown, attended (mostly) by my Hubb's gigantic family, co-hosted by my MIL. The other will be smaller, co-ed, and in the City with all of my friends.
  • Stm, 2 showers. i declined SIL and asked if she could help my sis plan one and she threw a big fit like a 2 year old. Not to mention she's already bitching about doing it, she will have to clean her house, invite guests (which will only be DH side of the family) get food, gifts (I told her not to get me anything BC I declined in the first place) and decorate. She will wait until the last minute like she did with DDs shower and bitch more. I don't know why she wants to have one if she doesn't want to do it. My sister is doing one I tried to decline but she told me she would kidnap me and drag me to it. So ok if that's what she wants she can do it, she likes to do it so its not as big of a deal unlike SIL. I think I've gotten mil to talk to SIL about it and doing one with my sister, that way she can put her 2 cents in and not have to do anything.
  • sadly none. we may have a little one with some family around thanksgiving.. but that's 2mos after baby...

  • STM. For my first son, my family had a shower and my work had a shower. I do not expect a shower for DS2. However, I do want to celebrate him, so we may throw a "BaByQ" (no gifts).

  • I'm a SS I guess.....STM. DH will have shower at his job. My new daycare crew of friends wants to do a "sprinkle" which I'm not really comfortable with.

What is a nice way to THANK someone for hosting a shower for you? I know how much thought, planning and money goes into it and I feel the need to do something special to thank them (I'm having 3 showers).

    ---mobile quote----

This is what I'm trying to figure out! My sister threw us a sex reveal party so we got her a card and a bouquet of flowers as a thank you. But a shower is such an expensive gift that I don't know what to get her for the thank you-- I'm thinking maybe a gift certificate for her and her DH to go to dinner at one of the nicer restaurants in her town? Anyone else have any suggestions?
  • SS I'm a STM and haven't heard anything about a shower but I'm sure someone will do something small. It's still pretty early.

We took our "shower throwers" out to their favorite restaurant. They did a great job and we really appreciated it so it was our way of saying thank you!

Eta: of course we paid the tab
  • FTM- probably having two even thought I would rather not have one at all. My MIL (whom I love!) offered and so did my mom. I'd have to travel there which is why I'm leaning against it. I've been incredible sick and it's hard for me to travel, even just 3-4 hours by car.
That and the idea of a shower makes me uncomfortable. I don't like being the center of attention and I don't like depending on others for things...but that's just me.

  • STM: had a shower with my 1st, and now fast forward . . . 9 yrs later, and have moved cross country, we literally have no baby anything. For this reason my mother and sis are planning something in July. They're not too subtle about it either.
Lastly, a very happy and blessed suprise for us . . . we're having twins ( 1 boy, 1 girl ) which makes me embrace the idea of another shower with open arms!!
  • FTM, no one's offered yet...so idk

  • FTM, my twin sister started talking about a shower for me same day I told her we were expecting but she's always flakey and hard to deal with because she's a drama-starter. She co-planned my bridal shower with DH's family two years ago and she was adamant at first that she wanted to do this all by herself... Well now DH's aunt wants to throw me one too but since showers aren't cheap, I'm really pushing for them to work together. I'm think work will do a small party and chipped in for gifts as well since they did one for a daddy-to-be in January. I voted one shower on the poll.
