December 2013 Moms

N(really)BR: wwyd?

So we have a birthday party tomorrow, a joint 1st and 4th birthday (my friend's kids). Apparently the 1-year-old has been suffering with a vicious stomach virus all week and as of last night, still was not better. As far as I know the party is still on, but I'm really considering not going to the party -- no way do I want to expose DD1 and LO (or myself) to that! If it were me, I would postpone if possible to avoid infecting my guests.

Thoughts?? Am I overreacting, or would you still go? I should also add that the party is not at their house (if it was at their home there is no way in hell we'd be going -- there would be definite germ exposure in that case). I feel bad not going, but my friend has also mentioned that she got way more "Yes" RSVPs than she expected, so I also don't think she'd mind all that much.

  • I would call the mom and talk to her about it. Sometimes you get a stomach bug and you are no longer contagious but the effects have still not worn completely off. In the end though you have to decide what you are comfortable with.

  • Probably wouldn't go, especially since she said she got way more yes responses than she was expecting. Ask if you can setup a play date or invite them over sometime in the near future so you can give the kids their gifts.

True...I definitely have anxiety-related germ issues and this definitely stresses me out. I'm not really comfortable with just going and not worrying about it, but I would also feel bad not going to the party either. I'll speak to my friend and see how her DD is today...hopefully she's on the mend.

Was thinking this would be the way to go!

I would probably also opt for this.

Thanks ladies -- we'll skip the party and invite them over when everyone's healthy! Found out that my friend's daughter still isn't feeling well, so rather be safe than sorry.
