FTM with a potentially stupid question about safety...

Is something like this safe for the baby to sleep in as a new born in our bedroom, or would something that doesn't rock be better?

Re: FTM with a potentially stupid question about safety...

  • That's what my SIL and best friend used/ are using and what we will be using.

  • Thanks Rachel.
  • As long as the baby's head can't slump forward potentially causing a breathing issue. Both my OB & pediatrician's office don't even recommend the newborn napper in the very beginning.

  • This was one of my favorite baby products with my daughter, and we will be using it again with this baby. My daughter had reflux, so she slept better angled like this rather than flat. It's pretty sturdy, and the fact that it rocks never concerned me. It was also really handy because it's very portable, so we would bring it places with us rather than the pack 'n play so she could nap.
  • DS slept in this for a long time due to acid reflux. They won't be able to rock it for a while.

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

  • It is a wonderful product and specifically designed for younger babies. A newborn is perfect! Lincoln also had reflux and this thing was lifesaver. And sanity saver!!

  • Our RNP was amazing!  It was the only thing DD would nap in for months and months.

  • That's what we have and plan to use then playard the crib :)
  • That's what we used with our firstborn and will be using with this one as well. It was the only place besides our arms that she'd sleep (relatively) well in. I wish they made one of these for toddlers!
  • As a STM, I'm glad you asked this question! I used a 30+ yo bassinet with dd1, and she hardly slept in it! So, I did the "Great Trade In" at BRU, and that's when I realized they don't sell bassinets in store anymore! I needed something small and portable, but was also wondering if a Rock N Play would be ok to sleep in....glad you asked your "stupid" question! :)
  • I've never used one, but I do know that some babies heads start to get funky shaped in the back because of sleeping all the time in a RnP.  It started happening to one of the girls at my daughter's day care.  Just something to be aware of.

  • This is exactly what we got for our newborn to sleep in before he sleeps in the pack n play in our room before eventually making it to the crib.
  • @danielle4348 is correct. A baby can get a flat spot after being left immobile in any place.

OP, Some babies hate tummy time but they just need to get over it for their own good. I was really paranoid about Lincoln getting a flat spot so I rotated him all the time; sometimes it drove him nuts but he eventually got over it.

  • Buy it! We used is with the last 2 babies and plan to again for this one. Best baby item ever! It is so easily portable and our babies slept so well in it. They hated lying flat so the slight tilt was perfect. They slept in it until around 4 months. I didn't put them in it while they were awake and we had no probs with flat heads. Just make sure to hold the baby and move him/her around during waking hours and you will be fine.
