One-Nap Questions

Ok people with one-nappers... I have a bunch of questions because I think we really need to drop a nap. She is still napping easily twice a day but has been awake a ton at night and waking earlier... Not crying, just awake and playing.

Questions...

1. How long are your wake intervals? Wake to nap and nap to bedtime...

2. When do you do lunch? She wakes early anyway so it feels like ill have to break lunch into two.

3. How long is your one nap and how much night sleep should I be expecting? Right now she will sleep 3.5 hours during the day but we are struggling to get even 10 night hours.

  • Also, how long did it take to make the transition? Every tine I've thought she was ready it would change back.

  • My LO wakes around 7am and doesn't nap til around noonish and sleeps for about 2 - 2 1/2 hours. Lunch is after nap time. Bedtime is 8-8:30. Took about a month to fully switch to one nap.

  • DD made the transition like a champ, zero issues. I think she was ready.

She sleeps about 630-630 and naps around 11-1. She was taking 1-2 hour naps but I think she was hungry because she doesn't get lunch until about 2. I gave her an oatmeal snack today at 1030 and she napped 11-140! I would definitely give LO a snack before the nap if you do one right in the middle of the day like us, I think it helped a lot.
  • DS just went to one nap on his very own. He used to wake up around 5:30 or 6am, now he wakes up between 6:30 and 7am. He started not wanting to take a morning nap so we and d/c skipped the morning nap. We feed him lunch around 11am and at first he was falling asleep while he was in his high chair eating but now he makes it through eating. After he gets cleaned up and a diaper change he goes down for a nap for about 2 to 2 1/2 hours. he goes to bed around 7 or 7:30pm.

  • Okay so should I just try it and see if her night sleep lengthens? One out two days never changed it but I never did it for longer.

The transition was quick, she was down to one nap at daycare and after we came back from vacation I just started doing one nap.

she sleeps 7pm-7am on average, nap is 1.5-2 hrs.

sShe's up from about 7am to 11 or 12, so 5-6 hours of awake time between sleeps.

Lunch is kind of an issue at home when she naps from about 11-1:30.  I don't think she's ready for lunch at 10:30 so I wait and feed her around 2.  It's late, but it doesn't mess with dinner.  We usually eat and stay up a little later on the weekends anyway.  At daycare, she eats lunch at 11 and is napping by 12.  I just can't get her to stay up past 11 am at home.  Not as stimulating I guess.  But this will change as she gets older and her nap is pushed later so I'm not worried about it now.  She's not waking up starving or anything.

This! DS wakes between 7-8, naps around 11 or 12 for 1.5-2.5 hours... then crashes at 8:30 for the night. Once and a while he will take a mini-nap from 5-6 or shorter if we are out and about in the car.

  • John transitioned completely on his own. Some days were two naps and some were one until it was done.

    He's up at 6:30-7:30am

Goes down anywhere between 11:30am and 1pm.

    Sleeps 1.5-2.5 hours.

    Lunch is after nap.

Down for bed anywhere from 7:30pm and 9pm.....not always linked with when he went down for his nap. Some days he just seems to have more energy and will fight bedtime longer. Not always fussy....just not sleepy.

So he's getting 10-12 hours at night.
  • My daughter has been down to one nap since 8 mths and just dropped it herself one day. She wakes at 7:30-8am. Lunch is at 12 and nap is 12:30/1 until 3. She sleeps 11-12 hrs at night always with no wake ups.
